Found out about this at the CBA forums. Problem is that my 1891 argie carbine slugs out at .313" also have a long branch sporter that also slugs out at around .315" My lyman 314299 as cast diameter is .314" so I would like to get a bullet mold that would cast large enough so as to be used in both rifles. The long branch sporter has a two groove bbl and has basically no wear that i can see. Is the 316299 a group buy mold?. Thanks, Frank

There have been several group buys done based on the 314299. I believe I did the first, shortening it a bit so it would fit in Lee's blocks:

I believe NOE has done one also. NOE keeps their tooling and is doing small group buys of molds they made in the recent past. Get ahold of them and ask when they'll do it again.

I would check the Group Buy area. I don;t even try and keep up with them anymore.

Or you can "beagle" the mold.

Jeff in NZ uses a lot of CBE moulds and they have a designs that should work for you needs.

There is a group buy going on for the 311365 which is a spitzer boolit look on the second page of the Active Group Buy section. There is also some talk of a large 311299 maybe going in the near future. The only problem with these is if you get your mold by Christmass you'll be lucky. There is the option of paper patching which I have been working on, it works very well but takes a while to learn all the in's and out's.

Thanks all, looks like I'll check out the sponsors section. Frank

NOE ran a 316299 GB earlier this year. It only takes 5 orders for a re-run.

I must be doing something wrong, everytime I have tried to beagle a mold, they only enlarge on one side, never along the mold mating lines.

'Beagling' will produce out of round boolits but go ahead and try them anyway, you might get a nice surprise. They get round real quick when you shoot them, it's worked for a lot of people.

'out of round' when Beagling as dualsport says. The rifle's bore will be the deciding factor as to what is, or is not, round. A Pb projectile sized .002 (or more) over groove depth will be swaged to as 'round' as the bore is round.

I have a few long out of production Lyman moulds cut undersize due to sloppy factory QC that are delivering satisfactory performance when treated to the Beagling technique. My Rem.700 '06 seems to like them. :)

It's one of those things that make CastBoolits so interesting.

Has anyone decided to have a run of the 316299 moulds? I would like to get one also. I shot some of duelsports and they shot very good in my 44 M/N. It has a .317 throat. If there is going to be a GB, please let me know.

NOE asks for just 5 orders before they will make a 316299:

I don't believe you need a Honcho, just PM NOE or start a thread down in Group Buy Discussion.

Seeing as how this is getting closer to a group buy, I need some information.
I have heard a lot of good things about the NOE moulds. Actually, nothing bad.
I have only used up to the 2 cavity steel moulds. None of NOE's aluminum moulds.
So, can someone with NOE multiple cavity casting expierience tell me what number of cavities would be best for someone (me) to cast his own stash of bullets to play with. I'm not going to cast to sell, so hundreds of thousands of bullets is not in my future. I am talking simple and fast start-up. Maybe 3-4 cavity? Thank you for your input.

For my 2 cents worth I like a two cavity mold I can cast plently of boolits for my needs with a two cavity. Guess it just depends on how many boolits that you need. I don't have a NOE mold heard plenty of good things about them, I do have several LBT and a couple of Lee molds you have to be a little more careful handling them but they come up to temperature much quicker than cast iron and you can sure cast a lot of boolits with them once you get in to the rythem of casting with aluminum seems that you need to run them a bit cooler also don't need to keep you lead pot as hot. This is my experience anyway.

If you are looking to do a GB or get NOE to do a small run then you would be far better posting this in the Group Buy Discussion forum. That is the place where you will get a far better response

I think there was just a 316299 on the NOE overstock page the other day...it did not last that long.

I lapped out a Lee 312-185-1r mold to drop over .316 for my Mosin that slugged .314. I then lapped out a .314 sizer to .315. It was fairly easy to do and shoots very well.
