My dad gave me a Herters single stage to get started with. Funny thing is I'm still using it 20 years later.

Oh yeah - you're lucky all right!
My dad gave me a brand new cast iron RCBS JR press along about - oh - 35 years ago as a Christmas present. Dad's been gone for a long time now, but I still have that JR and it still serves as my "standard duty" press.

mparks & uncle R. those damned old presses will probably last longer than you.
I have a three stage C&H and I don't have a clue how many times I have pulled the handle on that old girl in the last 35 years but it has been a pile. It still loads great, my son learned on it and now the Grandson is learning on it. I don't know if they ever wear out. Getting one given to you, well that must be like going to heaven.

That was awful nice of him . Great maching to use and mine loads .38's to 06's and does a fine job on all of them . I'm sure you'll like it .
