i just purchased 2 55 pure zinc ingots locally. i solved ,i think , the zinc melting pot
problem. as i have said before, molten zinc is corosive and will leach the meltal
into the melt and the zinc becomes alloyed and get harder and harder. my last batch
of bullits last week i had to use my brass lube pad lubed with STP oil additive.
when i first started casting with zinc they would go through the lee sizzer dry and easy. well with this new pure zinc , i can size dry and easyly. the sprues cut like copper wire instead of like brittle glass. here is a pic of one of my 55 lbs ingots.
i put it in my 20 ton hydralic press and made the manageable. i use a old heavey
enamled pot the melt with. so far so good. i've gone through 4 cycles of melting
and total cool and no cracks. i should not get any alloy leaching from the pot and
i'm useing the cheap lee ladels and i don,t leave it in the pot. this pure zinc has
high surface tention like mercury. it don,t sit flat in the ladel, like a squised ball.
it don,t pour good. it dumps all at once. this zinc thing is a whole new ball game.
i think i'm winning.

There's always a lot of interest in different zinc alloys, but pure zinc is the most user-friendly by far. Enjoy.

Yea, just don't let your zinc get contaminated with that evil lead. LOL!!
