can you use JPW in place of bee's wax for lube? I've seen a recipe that uses 1lb bee'x wax ,1lb paraffin wax, and 2tbs STP .

NO. JPW is paraffin, mineral spirits, with a touch of carnauba...there is nothing in there that will replace beeswax as a base for making a lube.

Beeswax and or a similar melt temp microcrystalline wax is needed to make any decent lube..........just the way it is.

u have to break the lube down into what each component does ... some are lube some are carriers ( such as the beeswax, paraffin, etc) some stiffen some soften and some actually do more than one thing ( like carnuba - it hardens ,lubes a wee bit and also helps keep the bore looking pretty ) below is an excellent link pertaining to lubes and ingredients - well worth the read my friend !
