I have a single cavity Lyman 358156. It seems to work well with both 357 mag brass and crimped long in 38 sp brass in my Marlin '94C. Great bullet but the single cavity mold is kind of slow.

A local shop has a Lee 358-158 six cavity mold. The picture on the side of the box sure looks like the 358156 bullet with two crimp grooves. The picture on Lee's web site shows one crimp groove.

Does anyone know if the Lee mold has two crimp grooves like the Lyman?

Thanks,
Corbi

Corbi,
Though they look similar, the Lee has but one crimp groove, but two lube grooves.

That is the Lee mold I am talking about. The picture on the box does not seem to match the picture on the web site. The shop owner is being a little hard headed about letting me open the box and look at the mold. Good shop but they can be a little bit hard headed.

I'll probably just suffer with my single cavity mold until I can afford the 4 cavity Lyman.

Corbi,
I spent a lifetime selling stuff...the store owner either hasn't the slightest concept of sales and customer service, or is being a jerk. In this case, you will be better served by ordering from Midway or Midsouth, etc.

The Lee c358-158 has a wider nose profile and 1 crimp groove. It's a great boolit. I have a 358156 and it doesn't get used much as most of my pistols shoot either design well, and a lee 6 cavity drops em alot faster.

Thanks. I am interested in seating the bullet long in 38 special brass.

Corbi,
With the one crimp groove, it won't seat long. Unless you want to play around with crimping in the upper lube groove.

Also the Lee boolit seats deeper in the case than the Lyman, so if loads are near max....

You could also check out the Vendor Sponsor section for BRP custom moulds. They make a version of the 358156. I have one and love it.

Thanks, I'll do that.

I appreciate the replies.

I am getting very good accuracy in my Marlin '94 with most loads from 357 mag brass. The standard 38 special loads shoot only okay. The 358156 loaded long in 38 special brass are actually quite accurate.

Thanks again.
