In working out of town I have a little down time. This past week I have been down South, and made a contact with a lead smelter in the area. The guy gave me his business card, and told me that he sells to a lot of 'high end' bullet companies and could mix up anything I wanted for a wholesale price.

I looked at a quantity of 2-6-92 that he had on hand and even though that was going out to a customer on order ... he let me have a spare 40# lot of it. The lead comes in 20# ingots that are hash marked for breaking off if the need arises for a smaller setup.

He quoted me $1.25 a pound shipped to me for 2-6-92 and $1.55 a pound shipped to me for 4-12-84. He said that the 4-12-84 is a linotype clone and is popular among a lot of bullet casters.

Is this a fair, good, or great price?

For comparison, Rotometals price for 2/6/92 "hardball" is $2.02 / lb up to 60 lbs, and drops with quanity to $1.68 / lb for 2000 lbs or more.

For lino, $2.52 , down to $2.09/ lb for a ton or more.

compared to that, I'd say those are good prices.

For me, however, I'm still a cheepskate that will keep scrounging wheel weights as long as I can. It's hard for me to part with $200 for a bucket of lead.

It would cost about $1.50 per pound to make 2-6-92 if you got the lead for $0.75 and boughttherest in bulk.
So by that, its a good deal.
We need his contact info??

I'm going to secure a 500# order from him, and wait to receive it. After that I will post his info.

I know the nature of the 'Internet Beast'. Once I post his info he will be hit with 100 orders and I will be backlogged on my order.

I will share the info once I receive my order. Standbye

So that is 50# @ 50c/# & you still have to collect & smelt it. Yeah, I would buy that all day @ $1.25/# delivered, especially w/ gas @ $3/gal.

Price of lead has been falling. Last load of 2/6 I got form Mayco was $1.30 LB FOB. It's a 305 mile round trip for me to pick it up. I buy it by the ton. Price would be less now per market but 1.25 seams fair.

they won't make me any Lino. Perhaps you could PM me the contact in KY. If it's on the west side of the state it's not to far.
