the 358156 loaded heavy with 2400, gas checked, shoots great. That 180gr NOE looks like it would be another great choice.

I am also looking for a heavy cast bullet for a 357 Marlin. What is the nose length of the Saeco #354?

Thanks
Brett

Night Owl Enterprises 360 180 Wide Flat Nose...gas checks in the 357 Cowboy; plain base in the "herd of Vaqueros."

358156 is good; 358665 also. Used them both in 38 and 357 brass. 1892 Winchester converted to 357 in 1966; 1866 Winchester copy in the '70s; 1894c and subsequent Cowboy rifles since.

NOE group buy pending on a 200 grain semi wadcutter.

This is a good one. Even with a very sloppy chamber, mine shot consistantly 2" and under at 100 yards. However, it wouldn't shoot much of anything else well at 100 unless it has heavy and upper end loads.

The Lee 125 cowboy boolit is a great plinker for 50 yards.

I am having my barrel set back and a new chamber cut. We'll see how that works out.

I didn't measure it, but it works in 357 cases in all (3) of my Marlin 1894C. It also works in the 336 35 Rem.

For a plainbase bullet, the Lee 358-158RF works great at lower velocities.

I have one of the NOE HPs and it also works fine, but I've shot the Saeco 354 extensively and would recommend it FIRST for 357 loads.

Good morning
Lyman 358429 My mold casts right at .360 using 50/50. With 6-8.5 grains of Unique.
I use this same load in all my 357īs...

I shoot a lot of the SAECO #353 (same boolit as the #354 except plain base). Nose to crimp length is .330. My 1894C would not feed them until I did the simple carrier modification documented here:

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=7750

I have read reports from others that have also had excess650's good fortune, so it is clear that there is variability in the maximum OAL that will feed in different rifles. I just wanted you to be aware that there might be problem.

Anyway, I run the #353 at 1,349 fps average and it is a wonderfully accurate boolit. I would expect that the checked #354 would be as well and it could be run well over 1,700 fps.

I have also shot several different versions of the 180 grain WFN to include a Lee mold from the first group buy, a custom mold that crabo had made and finally a NOE mold that I purchased. All were wonderful shooters. I would have to fire many, many groups to try to tell a difference between them and even then they might come up even. As a bonus, it is almost as if they were designed with feeding in the Marlin as the primary goal.

358429...

Gotta shorten the case to crimp in the crimp groove and get it to cycle...

In my 94-C I keep it loaded with a 358156 HP in a 357 case with H110 powder.
For a plinking load I use a 38 case with the Lee 158 gr. RF over a load of 4.0 gr of Bullseye.

Both loads shoot pretty much to the same point over 100 yards using peep sights.

This modification is easy to do and worth the effort.

My 1894C would not feed them until I did the simple carrier modification documented here:

When I first got my '94c, it would sometimes hick-up with SWC style boolits. I figured I might have to do some tuning as some have mentioned.

I may be captain obvious, but I finally realized that I wasn't paying close enough attention to my crimping operation (not uniform around the case mouth's circumference[smilie=b:. Once I perfected the crimp, my rifle feeds most any style boolit.

Just a reminder to check first things first before considering expensive and annoying major modifications. Sometimes we tend to over-think ourselves.
