Hello, years ago Harvey Donaldson used a lube containing Rosin..claimed it provided lube with drag..permitting the smokeless charge to build pressure for cleaner burn, in addition to holding lube in bullet grooves. Could the bore-shine be from slight abrasivness? My bores are shiney enough from paper-patch escapades, has anyone tried this?

I've read that some people have added it if their lube is too slick, but obviously not many people are using it.

I find it interesting that Phil Sharpe, in his fantastic book The Complete Guide to Handloading, condemned the use of rosin in Donaldson's mixture as an abrasive and strongly recommended that it not be used.

He claimed no problems getting grease wads to work and cling to the case neck without the rosin. He also pointed out that the problems Elmer Keith had with throat erosion when developing loads with Donaldson's rosin formula for wax wads could have been avoided by skipping the use of the rosin.
