I want to color some brass cases when making dummy rounds for action testing and training. I will be drilling out the primer pockets and drilling holes in the side of the case like the military ones.

I want to color these somewhat so they stand out. Can it be done at home easily? Other than dark tarnishing?

Paint will flake off into actions, chambers, and magazines.

I've used "Brass Black" by Birchwood Casey, applied to the case head, to mark brass. Holds up pretty well even after a several tumblings in my Tumbler's Model B.

Magic Markers work good. You may need to touch them up every once in a while.

When I was shooting centerfire pistol at an indoor range we would use magic marker on the 45 auto bases so we could retrieve our own brass. Worked great.
