I bought one for a project and want to take off the front sight ramp. Is this part of the barrel or is it silver soldered on. Any input would be helpful. Thanks

A 722 should be a solder on. You will need to get the barrel almost red to get it off. High temp silver solder. The Winchester mod. 70 was integral to the barrel up to mid 1951.

The 722 has a screw under the sight blade. Remove the blade and you will see the screw. There is also a couple of studs under the sight base that fit in two extra holes in the top of the barrel for alignment so you end up with a total of three holes when you remove the sight.

Skeet is right. I still have the front sight ramp I took off a 722 in 1961.

Must be a different Remington I got the ramps off of. I know the later ones were screwed on but I have two that were silver soldered off an old Remington

the earlier front sights are soldered on. the 700s are removable.
