OK, I need some help. Recently bought a S&W 624 stainless steel 6.5" bbl revolver and have had some trouble locating a suitable holster for it. So has anyone have any suggestions that I may follow up on?. Thanks, Frank

Galco? El Paso Saddlery, but you'd better be patient. I'd google to get some ideas.

+1 on El Paso Saddlery. Probably take 6- -8 weeks to get it made but the quality is excellent.

Frank, FWIW I went through the mental turmoil such as you are going through several months ago (Ruger 5.5 Black Hawk), these things are not cheap! After a LOT of looking & searching I decided on Galco, and have never been sorry for a second! If this brand approaches what you need, don't hesitate to get one.

BTW, just before you buy whatever do a search for coupons on the companies name, I received another 10% off, and it took me about 3 minutes to search for the coupons.

Good luck.

Check with our own freedom475. I was happy with the work he did for me - he is a leather artist. He can work with you to design/make what you want. Plus, he is from Montana which makes him a extra cool by my standards. 8-)

Any holster for any "N" frame with the same length barrel should work. The 624 has a slightly shorter cylinder than a Model 29 or 629, but no holster would know the difference. Are you looking for something really exotic, or am I missing something here? The 6-1/2 barrel narrows the field, but even Midway has a holster for it.

Actually the midway holster would be fine. Our sherrif's range requires a holster for all handguns. Bet that guy who shot himself in the jewels wished he had bought one. I bought a couple of those plastic military night vision boxes and had some of the grey foam so made up a couple inserts as I usually go to other ranges and shoot more than one handgun. Thanks for all your suggestions. Frank

Now for the irony here, one of the ranges I attend matches at has a no holsters rule! You can wear your holster IF one is required in competition, but the holster must be empty if you are not actively shooting a stage of the match.

I've posted this advice on here before: spend $50 in the purchase of leather working tools from Tandy, listen to their advice, look at some pics in the various holster makers on line catalogues and build your own.

You can vary the style, drop, angle of presentation, belt size and finish it to any color you like.

They're relatively easy to make, and your first effort will be usable. The 2nd, will be a show off piece for your pals at the range. With a little fore thought, you'll be able to turn one out, less the time spent on staining etc, in about 4 hours.

So if you like home built stuff...spend some bucks, and learn a new trick. Best Regards, Rodfac

The books available from Tandy, but they'll show you how too.

Here's my version of The Duke's rig. Rough side out for the money belt and very comfortable.

Rodfac, looks to be interesting. May have to find something to keep my mind occupied. You ever hear of empty nest syndrome??. What do you call it when your two daughters move back in with their financee's ( ok I can't spell it) two dogs. I already have a dog and two cats. Some days your cup runneth over, others its floods. Sprue, your flea market purchase is purdy but be aware, it's not usable in any sanctioned matches that I know of due to the exposed trigger while holstered. It is a safety feature that has been pretty well accepted throughout the shooting world. Do not let this invalidate your hobby or your desire t make your own holsters, just keep this in mind. I see your homemade rigs do comply and are acceptable.

Check out our vendor sponsor Wes of 7x leather. He posts under the handle Freedom475. I don't have any of his holsters, but a few of his other leather products and they are all very high quality. He makes a lot of neat leather gear for revolvers.

Actually Sprue's holster would be perfectly legal in any SASS cowboy match.
