I got out the old 336 the other day and shot it about 20 times, and I remember how much I liked it. So now I have a set of dies on the way so I can reload for it. Now I need a mold.
I want to try to make my own hunting bullets. So, someone point me in the right direction as to which mold to get.

311041 or 3311291 are the best ones to start with unless you are partial to Lee products then they have a 150 gr FP and a 170 gr FP. A 311291 sized using a FN punch works really good on deer.

Crazy Mark has put it on the table cards up. Although there are many possible powder combinations, 25-30 grains of 3031 will do everything that you need in the 30-30. Use a gas check. LLS

I use both the Lyman 311041 and the lee 170 gr FP and they both are accurate bullets in my rifles. The last animal I killed was a coyote at about 70 yards with a lee 170 FP over 18 gr of imr 4198. The bullet went in the chest and came out behind the right last rib after penetrating diagonally through the animal. The coyote was DRT.

I bought the Lee 150 and 170 RFNs to see if wanted to cast for 30/30. Turns out I cast alot for 30/30 and haven't bought any other moulds. I shoot the 150 the most. One of these days I'll get another mould, RCBS maybe. The Lees just work fine.

The Lyman 311041 is certainly the old standby !

The RCBS 30-150 is a good mold as is the Saeco 30-150 FN GC .

But without a doubt the one I had the best luck with and shot the most was the Ranch Dog 311-165GC !

+1 on Lyman #311291. It is the most accurate boolit in my .30WCFs. Cast from wheel weioght +2% tin and air cool. Size to .312. I can push these to 2200fps with no leading and good accuracy.

Lyman #311291,,,,,dropped weight for me is 180 gr.
my Savage 340 and Win 94 both do well with that boolit...
with IMR 4895 or IMR 3031 powder.........25 ro 30 grains
I also found Win 748 a good powder...28.2 grains

point of impact at 100 yards was exactly the same using 25 grains of 3031 and 28.2 grains of Win 748

I'd say the lee moulds in 150 170gr. is where you should start, there cheap so if you don't care for the whole ideal you have'nt spent alot of cash. we all know how tight it is these day's. but good luck to you.:castmine:

I use Lee mould 90368. This produces 170 Gr boolits at which I size/lube and gas check. I have used these rounds for 20 years in the woods and love them. I use AA powder and have brought down everything that I have put the sights on.

I really like the Saeco #315. Its a tapered 175gr bullet with fn, so works through the magazine and fits a variety of throats.
