View Full Version : Does anyone make a 45 WC?

I couldn't find anything in the way of a traditional wad cutter in .45 cal. I've done a bit of Googling and Foogling, but haven't found anything.

I'm thinking something around 200gr. would be about right, but given the scarcity, I'm not picky.

I meant to say: does anyone make this mould?

It wouldn't feed in most 1911's

Not saying it can't be done, just saying the bullet for a 45 ACP must/should take into account geometric shape in order to feed reliably.

I think Magma still makes a 225gr. full wadcutter.

All great leads! (I forgot all about Ballisti-Cast! Man, what a candy store!)

Will check with Magma, too. And do a search for the Lyman.

Many thanks.

You just missed the NOE Group Buy for the Tri-Weight 45 WC that was available in 120, 170, & 250 grain versions. Swede may have extras available soon !

Mine should be here tomorrow ! :)

I think Saeco lists a 225gr wadcutter in 45cal.

fred, I need to go to Google search school. Thanks for the link.

change, I've got one SAA at the moment and want to add a Model 25 some time this year. I just enjoy playing with different combinations for target work.

I can relate. I have one of the GB tri-weights coming. Going to try it out in several guns including a Colt SAA and three model 25's Can't wait.

Blammer posted this on the CB hunting forum in my post on meplat size. Now I think these could really be fun, LOL!

I have a .44 caliber Lee 209 grain WC mould that I've played around with some in my recent Ruger 44 Spl purchase. I know it's pretty unscientific, but when they smack the berm, they make a good "whack" and throw a lot of dirt up.

I would like to try the same thing in .45 caliber, and think you would like one if you got one.

I also have a Lee .41 cal mould that makes a WC of around 160 grains, but haven't shot any of those yet.

Barry, I just plain like WCs. I particularly like Swede's for the 45, but the links provided lead to some interesting possibilities.

I lucked into NOS Lee WC moulds for .41 in 116gr., 161gr. and 208gr. All discontinued.

I have an old Lee .456 235 Grain DC mold--great bullet to use with the .45 Colt.

I load them backwards also, if over Black Powder or '777'

Watch your Loading densities with some of these Wadcutters...they might have a crimp groove allowing them to set deeper than a Loading Table anticipates for similar Weight RNL.

Now that's creative and cool. I typically shoot "poof" loads with WCs. And I work up carefully.

I ran into trouble with some .41 Special cases made from Starline .41 Mag brass. The Lee 208gr. WC bulged the case wall to the point some won't fit my tuned up 657 seated flush. But what's to worry. I only did about 400 of them.

(They will fit my factory 57, so I can joke about it.)

Are you casting 100% lead for BP?

Wally, If you don't mind my asking what plans do you have for a 45 WC?

To use it as I like shooting the .45 Colt with a WC bullet.

Uh, oh. I think we got a Wally mix up?

Anyway, "Wally" speaks for me, too.

I like WCs in just about any revolver (and the Model 52, as well).
