I used to have a scanned copy of the Cabine Tree tester chart online but I can't find it. Also can't find my hard copy at the moment. Does someone have the list they can post the readings and approximate BHN for me please?

I ran a test of a boolit that ran .085" on the dial. Can't recall the BHN for that one.

Bob J, thanks for the chart! My OLD Cabinetree tester didn't include data that inclusive.

Thanks gentlemen. I looked on his site last night couldn't find the link to the info. Must not have looked hard enough.

My pleasure.... I built this chart using a statistical software package to curve fit the data.... Find it much easier to use than the table data....

I looked at their website don't understand how the work.
I can see it has a dial indicator but how do you know how much to screw it in?
From what I have read about Lee and others using so much weight or pressure I don't get how this would work.

Someone that has one of these please educate me on exactly how it works.

I would love to see a youtube clip of one in operation.

I bought one a month ago. Very easy to use, just place the sample piece of lead/or bullet in the unit. Tighten down the screw until it just touches the sample. There is a brass pin that is used as a reference point on the calibrated nut. Turn the screw one complete turn. Read the dial indicator and look at the cross reference chart. I looked at all of the available testers, glad I went with Cabine Tree! Its nice as you can test bullets all the way down to .22, 35 grainers and all the way up to ingots or odd shaped blocks. Cabine Tree gets my vote.

best thing is you can test an ingot or any shape. Some like seaco you have to have a boolit

For those that might want it. All three pages of the manual included with the current production model.
I bought one a couple of weeks ago. This is a wonderful tool, easy to use, and very accurate.

I hate to ask this, as it might be a stupid question.

Bob J or (whomever might know), why are there 2 blue lines on your chart? And why do they diverge slightly from each other?

I've had my Cabine Tree just over a week, and I am kindof shocked to see how hard my water dropped clip on wheel weights test. They (several weeks old casts) test right in there with air cooled (day old) linotype ingots. They test on the upper end of the 86-90 range on my dial indicator, which puts both the linotype ingots and the quenched WW's (9mm with a big meplat filed in the nose) both about 22 BNH if I'm reading correctly. The quenched boolit samples might even show slightly harder than the linotype. Is this even possible?

I know this is an older sticky but I just wanted to add that I think the Cabine Tree tester is a nifty device so I ordered one. I do a lot of alloy tinkering and I've always wanted a more quantitative way to measure the results that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. It looks like this tester will fit the bill.
