I have a line on some Linotype in the original form of cast letters, words, and spacers. The catch is that I need to buy the whole Lot to get some. It is a full 55 gallon Drum. I am only interested in maybe 300# or so. Is there any interest in the remainder, perhaps 1000-1500#? The price fluctuates with the metals markets. It was offered at $1.15 per #. If there is sufficient interest I could work out the shipping in USPS Flat rate boxes. I cannot commit to buying the whole Drum, without repaying the investment quickly. Future Wife might get a bit Pissed!
Please post or PM me if interested.
Thanks,
Greg

I am in NJ, and the price is $1.15 per #. Shipping would be USPS Flat rate for $10.70 or $14.70 depending on which box it fits in. Local Pickups would be preferred, but shipping them anywhere in the US is fine.

1) For the whole lot, they should be offering 50 cents a pound, which is about what they would get from the scrap metal dealer. Even in New Jersey, that's a high price.
2) A buck to a buck fifteen might be an OK price if you are only buying 300 pounds.
3) I get 50 pounds in the MEDIUM sized Flat Rate box. You have to do some stacking to get that to fit well.

My buddy and I are off to another printer here in Maine tomorrow to pick up another 1300 pounds, at the 50 cents a pound. That's the going rate.

The Linotype is from a Scrap Metal Dealer. They already bought it from someone else. They know it's worth more than just Lead. The Sell on Lead is only $.75-76/ # today. A few weeks ago it was offered at $1.30/# which is way too much for me. I checked the Rotometals Website, and it is $2.92/# there. I didn't think the price was too bad, compared to the ingots from them. I have Tin, and lead, but didn't want to mess with alloying Antimony in the mix.

That price is for 50lb lots on eBay. For a 1300 lb lot, that seems pretty darn high.

Actually $1.15 is a good price for linotype because it would cost a little over $2.00 per pound to make linotype from $0.75 per pound lead.
Its not a steal. I bought lino from the scrapyard at $0.80 per pound when lead was over $1.00 on the futures and today lead futures are around 76 cents.

I agree, not a bad price, but not a steal. When your choice is Rotometals, $1.15/# is pretty reasonable. E-bay, not unless it's in tpye form would I be trusting that. I would go for some, but am sitting on 300# or so myself & will probably never use it all.

I agree the price isn't too bad. Lino and Mono are getting harder to find every year. I just finished my last Montype up awhile ago. I managed to get it from a scrap Dealer for $.30/#, but that was almost 5 years ago.

I am really looking for some people to split the drum with. I will not commit to buying the drum, unless there is sufficient interest. If you are interested PM me with the desired Quantity.
