I rejoined the Cast Bullet Associaton thinking I might get involved in their Postal Matches. I have good rifles for both their Military and Military Modified Iron classes.

Looking over the records, it seems like Lylman 311299 is the current favorite in the 03s and 03A3s. Any comments or perspectives on this bullet vs. the old stand by 311284. I don't see it being used.

Both my Remington 4 groove 03A3 and my feaux Smith-Corona NRA Sporter need the bore riding nose to be .301 for best results. How big are these 311299 in that areas.

It looks like two 10 shot groups (100 yards) in the 1.3 to 1.5 inch area will get you in the top three in these class of matches. While a challenge to 64 year old eyes and loading practice, this level of accuracy is well withing the capabilities of my rifles.

Anyway..comments on 311292 vs. 311284 appreciated. The RCBS 165 SIL is another top bullet. I have this mold and it is a proven performer in my 30-06s.

If it fits, it shoots. The advantage is that you can get the 314299 with a .302 nose outta WW and the 311284 is the luck of the draw. Mine fortunately is .301 with my WW+tin mix and .3015 with a light coat of nose lubricating LLA.

But from my experience, if I have an equal fit between those two designs, the 311284 has won out time and time again in several guns out to two hundred yards. More drive area so you can shoot a softer bullet at the same velocity level.

Too bad that you don't have a 160 grain LBT spitzer. No bore ride so no worries about nose fit.

Yeah Chargar,
I like that RCBS 165 SIL also. Have loaded a couple of loads that were good right from the start. Have tried 28 gr. RX-7 and a few others but can't find them right now.

My Remington A3 with 4 groove barrel likes the 311284 best with top accuracy around 1700fps.

I've got both molds, but in the 314299. I haven't shot the 299 yet so I'm no help..

............The 311299 is a more biased to the nose rider where the 311284 is a kinda 50/50 deal. Some of the best shooting I've ever done was been with the 311284. I do have to confess though that I've never used the 311299 so I can't compare. The only thing I don't like about the -284 is that dirt scraper groove in front of the front drive band. I've heard others like it, but I've had it allow the nose to bend a bit. Makes a weak spot in the middle of the slug.
