I have access to lead sheets that are, presumably, from deconstruction of an x-ray facility. Is this lead safe to use?

I'm a Greenhorn when it comes to leads and alloys, so please help me out. I was concerned that the lead may be irradiated or something. Are my worries all for nothing?

Absolutely safe. Lead does not absorbe and store the x-rays, it just prevents them from penetrating the walls as it is too dense. Get it and have fun, Oh yeah and if you do get it and your too worried, I'll take it and dispose of it properly for you, no charge... LOL...
Good luck and welcome aboard...
Jack

Is this stuff usually 99.9% lead, or are there other additives?

hard to say ( even if tested with a hardness tester) usually it's soft stuff ,but some times it also has a antimonial content ,the sheet led i smelted from an old x-ray room had a hardness of just under 10 BHN ,the roll of flashing type material checked in just under 8 ,and ye olde roof vents ( with the joint cut out ) was the softest i tested ,mostly sheet lead is soft enough for muzzle loaders ( mostly) but until smelted and tested ...[shrugz]

Greetings and WELCOME Riverwalker76..
Take all the FREE lead you get offered.. Good for trades and mixing and whatever comes along. I generally cast with 25% WW mixed with pure down here in Peru as WW is real hard to get unless I want to buy NEW. Works real good in revolvers, my 44-40 1892 and Round ball in 12 guage.

Don't get me wrong ... this lead isn't FREE, but I'm calling tomorrow to get a price for it. I just hope he doesn't try and own ME on the price per pound ... if you know what I mean.
