I acquired a single cavity mould off eBay that I have been using in my 40-82 large bore rifle. It appears similar to the 403169 but casts a heavier bullet (about 250) and is a larger diameter (410). Does anyone have any further information on this mould? Top punch? Listed bullet use? Production date, etc.

Hello and GREETINGS 25Remington !
Good to have you about the place. Especially another shooter of the fine older calibers.
Well that is an interesting mold #. Does not appear in the CASTPICS reference section you can find at the bottom of each page this sight nor in my books down here.. someone will have it documented.

But a 250 flat nose should be able to SMACK down near any critter you decide to pop with it. I shoot a 270 grainer (near pure lead) in my 45-60 (53 graines 2F) and I would not hessitate to hunt anything with it. I would limit my self to CLOSE shots and be ready to shoot numerous times if needed but these calibers were used with Black Powder to hunt every known critter in this hemispher.
The nose punch... if you are just pushing the cast boolit through a press to lube it then any flat punch that is equall to the flat metplate and will still fit the die diameter will do the job. Or if you have a round nose punch fill the cavity with wax for a temporary job or a harder material for a more perminent fix. Hot glue works well. You can expoxy also.
But if the boolit shoots well as cast (most old rifles need FAT boolits...) you can apply lube with your fingers ( I still lube my 44-40 boolits down here that way watching the SNEWS) or take up pan lubbing if you shoot a bunch.
The 40īs and 41īs are fasinating calibers... I may have to swop one of my 45īs in the future and work with a 40-82... All that space to fill with 2F to smack a 250 grainer in the soft base !
