I have 3 1903a3 rifles in 30-06 and i am shooting 15 grains of green dot out of it with a 150 grain cast bullet. What i am curious about is if anyone here has a great load for a 150 grain cast load that they are willing to share that i can try. Most of all of my reloading books have loads for jacketed bullet but not very many for cast and i am trying to find different loads for my rifles to try to find a really good one. The 15 grains of green dot shoots okay 4 shot group about the size of a half dollar open sight at 25 yards but i think it should do better. any ideas or help would be wonderful. thanks

first off welcome to the forum.
you don't say if you are using gas checked or plain based boolits.
if gas checked look for loads with 4895,2400 or the other usual suspects, in the 1800-1900 fps range.

I load the Lyman 311041, weight is 174 grs., 19grs. SR4759. About 1,680fps. 3" groups at 200 yards with a 2 groove 1903a3.
The same load in my left hand Savage 110 in 30-06 groups half that size at the same range.

I have found this powder works extremely with cast. Next best powder is AA5744, then 2400.

Even though your bullet is lighter I think it would be worth trying 4759.

For years I shot the Lyman 311291 over 12 grns of Green dot in LC 62 national Match seated out to touch the rifling with a WW large pistol primer origonaly sized to . 309 groups improved when I started sizing to .312. The rear sight had to be set on 400 yds on my rifle. I shot 2 to 2.5 inches at 100. Funny how the group size increased as I got older. If it was windy I used 20.5 of IMR 4227. Not quite as good a group but made reading the wind easier. I also tried the old 1/4 sheet of toliet paper but could not tell it helped the group. The biggest thing that helped was seating out to the rifling.

Shooting over LEE's 155gr .312 Gas-checked with 24gr IMR 4895 as well of 12gr of Red Dot works really well for me.

Pop this link in as well for good load data for 30-06 cast loads.

Yep, hard not to catch more wind with a 2 groove.

Picture that slug flying into the wind. It looks like a side ways traveling football with a dumbbell weight on each end of the football.

Not sure if that passes general aerodynamic theory or not. But when you get the launch correct, they will surprise you all things considered.

Get a copy of Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook and/or their Reloading Handbook. Both give extensive cast loads.

I shot my best group ever with a 150 cast GC boolit and 16 of SR4756, that right 4756.
The 10 round group @ 100 you could cover with a silver dollar, or on an SR21 target it scored
100 6X fired in an as issued 03A3.
