Anyone had good luck with this boolit? Planned use is in a Smith 629 at medium velocity...900fps range.

It will do quite well at 900 - 1,000 fps (maybe even faster).

Unique at 8-8.5 gr.

Double shot of LLA (thinned)

You'll wish you'd done it sooner!

I just casted almost 1k of this boolit. I can't seem to find suggested seating depth I should actually crimp this boolit down and how much crimp to use?

Will be shooting with a S&W 629 Classic, 6.5" barrel.

I tumbled lubed 2x with Xlox, semi-thinned down. Nuked it quickly in microwave to get it flowing good.

Thanks!

It's my favorite cast boolit in the 44 mag. I routinely drive them to loadbook max with H 110 with no leading and great accuracy.

Use the top lube groove as a crimping groove---use enough roll crimp that squeezes the case neck down just enough to grip the bullet tightly. Not sure why Lee didn't put an real crimping groove on these type of bullets.

Hve had much luck in the .44 Spl & the .44 mag, the later w/medium loads.

Wally: Just to make sure, top lube grove means this?

Nope, use the first lube groove from the nose of the bullet.

Got it. First lube grove as you said all along. My brain farted.

Thanks again!

Using a 8" barrel Mo 29 I get 880 FPS with that bullet using 6.5 grains W-231 in the .44 Spl & 1,000 FPS with 8.0 grains W-231 in the .44 Magnum... Both are accurate loads and fun to shoot.

I'm going to load 6gn of titegroup for my spl loads and move it up higher for magnum. I forget my plan. Will be referring to my manual. Going to load up some H110 with 21 or so grains which is 1 or 1.5 grains under minimum in Layman manual.

Looking forward to trying out my new 629 this weekend. I hope I don't get dastardly leading like I experienced with my 9mm loads. I had to lube my boolits 3x to get practically zero leading. I think I cut the Xlox lube down too thin. This time around, the 44 mag boolits getting thicker dose of lube.

If my 9mm is any indication (casted 5+k in one sitting), it took about a month (maybe more) before the boolit got hard enough to get no key holes (just melted down WW & water dropped). I was expecting a few key holes here and there, but zero now and only thing I can think of is boolit got harder. Current 44 boolits are only 1 week old.

Here's my range report. No chrony.

Good news is, next to nothing leading with two coats of Xlox. Bore still shiny after 100rds. Just water dropped. No resizing. I don't want to go that route. phew!

I shot 50rds spl to mag loads of titegroup 5-10gr and switched to mag primers with 50rds of H110 21-23.2gr and a dozen factory 180gr REM 44 mag. Holy flames and flash while doing it indoors.

Since my indoor range vent is complete again ***, I shot about 20rds in all and left to go to my outdoor one. The range also has a store and first time ever, someone waiting to have a chance to shoot (drop ins) asked what was I shooting? I asked, was it that loud? He said yeah, everyone started to wonder which gun was producing all the noise and flames. lol

Right off the bat, I was able to hit bullseye at 10 yards with 6gr of titegroup. I unscientifically bench rested and took 3 shots with all grouped about 1" at 25 yards. I forget which load. Maybe it was 9gr. Overall, pleasant shooting, even up to 10gr.

As for H110. Hot damn! 21-23.2gr has one hell of a kick! Just like factory 180 REM. But the REM made substantially more flames and a deeper BOOM! Accuracy? I don't know. I was probably flinching too much, but did hit bullseye once at 25 yards doing weaver stance.

I got a key hole here and there.

Now, all you H110 loaders, how can I get flames with it? I only noticed a tiny amount while indoors. Outdoors even with overcast, saw nothing. Factory REM was somewhat noticeable outdoors.

As for crimp, it's considered a light crimp, IMO. I measured before and after on 1 cartridge after 5 shots of H110 loads and it got 0.002" longer.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. 23gr should easily produce those flames everyone is talking about, right?
