Because this K98k has the Yugo commie crest and is no longer an interesting collectible I wanted to do something with it to make it more fun to shoot. I wouldn't do this to a fine collectible rifle. I do like the K98k in general.

I shot handloads today of 150 gr, 200 gr and 220 gr Sierra co.. cop..copp.. ah you know. This rifle much preferred the flat base Sierra 220 gr bullet. All three loads were rather snappy but showed no pressure signs.

The old Weaver K4 has a post & crosshair reticle and I don't like it. It's too hard to center on a black target. For the time being it'll be a place holder.

Those Leupold bases & rings are downright pretty. I really like them. I really like that they don't cost much.

Nice I agree with the post and cross hair I have a 2.5 weaver with the same reticule. I would never get rid of it but it is not one of my favorite set ups.

I was looking for the Leupold and immediately saw it sporting an old Weaver. I have bid on the post and cross hair model on E-Bay. Never won an auction. Nice rifle, really nice scope but I am sentimental.

I have a nice M48BO that got about the same treatment plus a low wing safety. The old Weaver V9 that is on the rifle looks like it belongs there. My rifle seems to like the Sierra 175but the big surprise was a few 125 gr. bullets a buddy gave me, the blasted thing thought it was a varmint rifle.

I would rather have a set up like that as most any Remcester you can find.

Now when yo are all up and running try this... Shoot 4 groups with the rifle as is and then take off the fore end bands and the top cover and shoot 4 more. If it works out like several I have done removing the bands will drop the group size quite a bit.

KSCO,

You would think that would be true, but not in all instances. My Yugo 48 B with a Williams peep on it can shoot a 5/8 inch group as it is stock. Boy, it's mind boggling if it can beat that with the mods such as you mentioned. That group is with cast, not jacketed. My Finn 39 shoots 1/2 inch ten shot cast groups scoped and stock untouched.

I have a big Tasco 6-18x42 that's going on this K98k soon as I get the "high" Leupold rings ordered.

The handguard on this rifle is fairly loose. I can't imagine that it's contributing to inaccuracy. I'll do the bands as you suggest. But I shot a Swede m/96 the same day and that sucker was making one hole groups at 50 yds and it's not even in it's original stock and I've never shot that rifle before. Sometimes these rifles just surprise me :).

Dutchman, I really like it. I have a Yugo K98 and it really shoots. I can get decent groups shooting Turk surplus ammo out to 100 yards looking through the issue sights. Do those Leupold rings raise the scope up high enough that you can use the original safety?

No it doesn't. I need to fit this rifle with a proper safety.
