I bought my first gas check mold. And i need to know the basics on this. Like on my other bullets, they need to be a thou or so over slugged size. So do the gas check bullets need to be the same way, or are they more forgiving?

Technically, no real difference. In practice, since most gc boolits are cast harder and can't rely on expansion, size is probably a touch more critical. A .001-.002 over groove size is what you want.

You can shoot them without G/Cs but you can't push them as hard.

If you do shoot them without the gas checks, and do download them a little, how bad does your accuracy suffer?

Depends on the rifle, a lot of us shoot the little Lee 311" 113 gn boolit in .303"s over a pinch of fast powder for use on 25 yrd indoor ranges.

Most shoot the boolit well ungaschecked, but a few rifles including my No4T won't shoot them unchecked at all. Put a check on them and they shoot great.

So to answer your question, you'll need to try it and see as all rifles a laws unto themselves.

There's a whole section down the page labeled "GAS CHECKS". Your answer to the no GC on a GC design is there- about 300 times.
