I hope this is the right forum to post this. If not I ask the mod to put it where it belongs. My question is has anyone taken one of the Lee 2 cavity 300 RNFP CG molds and reamed out the GC portion to make it a plain base? I'd like to try it if possible in a Blackhawk and Rossi 92 rifle. Thanks, GF

My experience with that boolit suggests that it should be driven pretty hard for the best stabilization, and performance. I'm not sure that taking off the gas check would be the best thing to do. Perhaps you could try one cavity first, and have the best of both worlds?

Been there done that. Mine weights 306gr. with 96.5%Pb/1.8%Sn/1.7%Sb alloy.

well I'd just try another mold and keep that one the way it is IMHO

Yes, I've done it too, I used a drill bit (don't remember the size, but it was fractional, 29/64ths or something) that was .453", chucked it in my drill press and turned it BY HAND to carve out the GC cavity. You can do it with a sharp utility knife, too, if you're very careful, although that works better for removing bevel bases. When you're done, cast a handfull of boolits and lap the base band of the cavity with fine valve lapping compound followed by a cleaning and lapping with Comet or some such fine abrasive to ensure round bases. You should end up at 305 grains or so and have two good lube grooves, although on mine the rear lube groove was more shallow than the forward one.
