Buying Anhydrous Lanolin locally is way to expensive. I found this on the Internet.

It's called Anhydrous Lanolin so I believe it's the the same as sold under brand names, opinion?

It's definitely a lot cheaper.

I think i paid $15/lb for mine a couple years ago. It has paid me back many times over. Healing properties, bullet lube additive, hand lotion additive ect..... I can't live without my Lanolin/woolfat.
I didn't look at the shipping cost, but i think yer getting it at a decent price.

Paste and liquid will not be anhydrous - there may be a ton of water in that bottle...

Their cheapest shipping options for 1 lb of lanolin @ $9.98: USPS $11.70, or UPS $11.94.

Changeling,
I'm no expert by any means but I have been using Corona ointment for the lanolin content. I have accumulated lots of partial jars over the years. I looked up the ingredients and it was almost half lanolin and half beeswax, there was a small portion of other ingrdients(1%-2%).
I read on another website that guys were using it for black powder lube. I posted a question here if it would be okay and felix thought it might work. I have been using it in FWFL and I use it in my version of Darr Lube to pan lube.
One word of caution there is water in Corona ointment so you have to cook the water out. The first time I used it I must have had the tempature above the boiling tempature of water(hot plate on low) because when I added the Corona it really foamed up. I kept stirring until the lube stopped foaming. I was worried that I might have overheated the lanolin or the lube but it has worked good so far.

My understanding of 100% pure lanolin would only leave alittle room for water or anything else but I am old school and don't understand the new math. To me 100% = all, IMHO

It reads as pure anhydrous lanolin to me....carry on.

And as a side note:::::: Liquid lanolin is 100% pure lanolin also. It is just the more oily "cut" that rises to the top. Just like anything being distilled into layers the "heavies" sink and the "lights" float to the top.

Use the lanolin (solid/wax) for bullet lube and mix the liquid lanolin 1 part to 10 parts 90+ alcohol and tadaaaaaa you have yourself some dandy case sizing spray.

Thanks gear, I'll start with Wiljen, I sent him a message but were having a storm so don't know if it went through or not.

Those on line places have a total cost of about $20.00 bucks delivered. $10.00 to deliver 1 lb of product, and they thought Al Capone was a crook!

Is this anhydrous? I might buy some for case lube if it is.

Well to me 100% means it is, but I am not up on new math either.

I get mine at the hippie health food store in a purple NOW tub.

I buy mine off of Amazon and it is the same as you are buying 357 maximum. It is in a purple tub with a NOW label and each jar has 7 oz. I found it in sale for $4.25 a jar and purchased 10 of them.

Well, it could be 100% hydrous lanolin and still be 100%. When you read the jar label it says something like 'compounded with 100% lanolin' which could mean " we start with 100% pure lanolin and then add it to a whole bunch of other ****"

It's not 100% lanolin. Here's a review from Amazon:

Contains 100% pure lanolin, but is not 100% pure lanolin, September 29, 2007

This is a hair product with more petroleum jelly than lanolin. The list of ingredients (in order) is petrolatum, lanolin, water, mineral oil, and fragrance.

The couple of pharmacies I asked said they could order it for $15-16 /lb. That's not too bad a price, and no shipping cost. However, I was fortunate to get in on Wiljens group buy :-)

What pharmacies did you consult for prices, that would be a really great price on "1lb of Anhydrous"!

It is in my opinion ridiculous to have to go through this for something that is a natural resource. For crying out loud it is dam sheep/wax.

Felix, I think you need to come up with an alternative if possible. I mean it's your formula but it is beginning to be like a never ending nightmare because of "SHEEP" by products. I would think some of the new synthetics could maybe fit in here, BUT, I am not the guru of bullet lube.

Sorry, just frustration at a high level! I should have never said that Felix needs to do this or that and I sincerely apologize. Your input has been the deciding decision with realistic reasoning for a long time. I am just frustrated at the cost of things in the formula and vented my frustration in the WRONG direction! My apologies, sir!

now thaz got me wonderin'........

Changeling
06-11-2010, 05:02 PM
It has me wondering also! Unless I'm way off base (I read this) the lanolin is for the "stickiness", and the caster oil is for slickness. Heck, I don't know!

357maximum
06-11-2010, 05:25 PM
they both add slickiness.......smear some lanolin on your hands and go split wood iffin ya doubt that statement..........wear a helmet and shin guards eh. While it may be true that lanolin is the glue, but it adds slip too.
