mag 01- Lyman 358477 (155 grs in my alloy), CCI 500 & 4 grains Unique works well for me. I haven't done much experimenting in .38, sticking more with .357 Mag, and I chose Unique mainly because I had a lot of it & it's the cheapest powder around up here in AK. Have fun.

Standard load for years has been 5 grains Unique in the Special case, with the 358477 seated to crimp groove's top. Crimp just enough to hold 6th boolit within the case as set to start with. ... felix

mag 01,
Although many will indicate a faster powder, I shoot the Lyman 358429 (170 grains) with AL-8 powder (Blue Dot burn rate powder). I am shooting these bullets at 550-650 fps. Accuracy is very good from an older Model 10 Victory series. So maybe try a slow burner also. Good-luck...BCB

I have fired probably a hundred thousand loads like you mentioned. I have three loads I use, which are not very different.

With a swaged 158 grains bullet I used 4.5 Unique or 4.7 AA5
With a cast 158 grain bullet, I used 5 unique or 5.5 AA5

For pure accuracy nothing beat the 158 RN... I like Lyman 358311

The Lyman 358311 with 3.0 gr. of Bullseye is the most accurate load i've ever shot. It will put to shame any wadcutter load, factory or handload, ever produced.

I use 4.5grs of Win/231 for a 158gr. bullet and it is a tack driver at 25 yds out of a 6" barrel. I am shooting LSWC's.

Got to vote with 45.2 on that load; been one very accurate 38 Special load, works well with Speer or Hornady swaged lead bullets too! However, my factory .38 SWC duplication load is 358477 cast fairly soft over 4 gr Bullseye for 838 fps gives excellent accuracy out of my old service revolver, M15 with 5" barrel. The 358477 over 5.5 gr Unique duplicated the 38 Special +P SWC load. Lyman's 358156 cast of recovered range lead (very soft) with Hornady GC and HP'd over the same 5.5 gr of Unique duplicates the W-W +P "FBI" load. They run 990 fps out of my 5" M15 and expand as well as the FBI load.

A versatile lightweight bullet load is the Lee 105 SWC over 4.7 gr Bullseye doing 1021 fps out of my M15 and very close to 1" groups at 25 yards. Very mild recoil, excellent plinker and small game load.
