Has anyone tried some of the new Hornady 200gr. .338" dia. LEVERevolution bullets in their .33 WCF?

I saw that they are now offered as a component and ordered 100 of them to try out. This is most welcome now that Hornady no longer offers the old 200gr. .338" JFP for rifles with tubular mags.

Harumph! Sir, the 33 Winchester is a primo CAST BOOLIT cartridge. Rubber belongs in tires, not projectiles!

I've been waiting for someone to say that......

I take it that you haven't tried 'em in your .33...

Bret,
I shoot plenty of cast bullets in my .33 WCF. Nearly all of my shooting is done with the plain base #338237, and a diminishing amount with #338320 because of the scarcity of .338 gas checks. I enjoy shooting all types of bullets in my smokeless rifles - mostly cast, but all types nonetheless.

I've participated in a couple of discussions here where several .33 shooters have lamented the disappearance of the old Hornady jacketed FPs, and we wondered when the new spitzers would be available as components....with it in mind that the much-improved BC would also improve the rainbow-like trajectory of the old 200 grainer. (Maybe even add new life to the nearly-forgotten and obsolete cartridge? I notice that Providence Tool now chambers their Peabody rifles in .33WCF!)

I saw the .338 200gr. LEVERevolution bullets offered as a component for the first time recently - and ordered some. I'd still like to know if anyone has any experience with 'em in a .33 WCF - with your permission that is. ;)

Sigh, kids, ya give 'em fancy books and all they do is chew on the covers. Fine, fine. Go ahead, just don't say I didn't warn you. Fooling with those new fangled rubber thingies will bring you to ruin. I suppose you buy into the idea of bathing more than once a year too?`

Grumble, mumble, rassin', frasin'.......

although likely more expensive than I'd like....I set aside my remaining stash of the Hornday 33 FP's when notified of their passing...saving them to sell to the gent that finally ponies up to take my 1886 Xl away ..Went back to the Lyman 338337,a PB design which is 232 gr.RTF with my alloy, wax type GC substitute underneath (haven't needed to try dacron alone or in combo). I'm confident it will do in anything I'd choose to use that rifle against. The fact that I have a treasured 4c 338337 did not enter in the decision.!.!..Oh,yeah.! !..... Good luck with your trials, and I'll watch for a report about results..especially if you make meat...Onceabull....

onceabull,

I'd be interested in some of your favorite .33 loads with that Ideal 338337, if you're willing to share 'em..... particularly any using SR4759, XMP5744, IMR4198, or IMR3031. :) Funny that they'd make a Dr. Hudson bullet in 4 cav.??

I have a whole lot of confidence in my .33 WCF, but I have to admit that I've never shot any big game with any of my cast bullets in it. Plenty with the old Hornady bullets - but none with cast - since I acquired it in the early 1970s.

Ya gots to wonder why the companies don't tool up and make a bunch of bullets once a year like they do certain brass. The 33 bullet, the Winchester 30-190 Silver Tip, the Hornady 35-250,stuff like that. Got me.
