I need to buy a Garand chamber brush and would like one of those ratchet gizmos. I found them on Midway, but the two comments say they are junk and broke trying to get them out. What is the best source to buy quality brushs of this kind?

I may be wrong here but I think the rachet style is meant for the 7.62 NATO chambers though it may work in the 06 too . I've found the best tool for brushing my Garand chamber is the tool made for the Garand during it's service life . It has the fold out "blades" that are used for the cylinder lock and other tools including a brush .

I got mine from the "Sportsmans Guide" years ago . You could try Bill Ricca who is an excellent man to deal with or do a search for "Garand parts" and look at the accessories that go with it . Tony Giaccobe is another that comes to mind as a source .

The tool does not rachet and if you pull it back , it comes out of the chamber without breaking .

I used the M14 ratchet chamber brush in M1s many a time and it worked fine. It's not hard to get out at all. One needs to screw the end of an M14 cleaning rod into the ratchet part to use it correctly. The M14 FM shows the proper method. The ratchet brush for the M60 is different and not the best to use.

PM me your address and I'll send you a M14 chamber brush, a section of M14 cleaning rod to use and I'll copy the instructions out of the FM and send it along.

I've seen those break, and was told a long time ago to put a rod down the bore & push on the "boolit" side of the brush as you pull it out. You won't break it that way!

They made those ratchet chamber brushes in two sizes; one for '06 and one for .308.

I've used them before and never had one break.

YMMV

Here's the tool that Jack was talking about: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MGR095-1.html

When folded, they fit in the butt stock of the Garand.

That's the one John . Handy as all get out to have . Having one with a good brush is nice for getting solvent in , having one with a worn brush wrapped with a patch is good at drying it out .

I've used one for years in my Garand. It came from a Garand cleaning kit. It's the ratchet type. You can also get them at Brownell's.

There are ratchet type 30/06 brushes on Egay. I cannot vouch for the quality of them.I need to grab some as all I have are the .308.
