Last fall I bought a couple Ruger SP101's for the wife and daughter, good feeling littlle guns but not target pistols. :-|

Sold the daughters and she went back to the Model 10, wife resumed her claim on my Vaquero.

Had a chance to trade for an older ( rust pitted, dirty, un-loved) Ruger security six with 2 3/4 bbl.

Had a chance to shoot it this week end, took a little adustment but that little thing will shoot 1 1/2 groups at 20 yds. (sorry no pics) sights will not adjust far enough to center, but close enough for social work.

I used a 158 boolit over 12.2gr of 2400, but the daughter got the same group with 6 1/2 gr of unique.

I thought I was losing money on the deal till I saw how the security six will shoot.

I l;ike it when everybody's happy.

My wife has an older SP-101 and it does very well out to 25 m. Could the build quality of the newer ones be an issue? I ask because it seems you had a problem with both of yours.

Doesn't matter what it looks like, just matters how well it shoots. Good for ya'.

Best keep that one as now you know not all Rugers are shooters.

I have a 6" SS Sec Six that is extremely accurate, right there next to the 586 +1.
Both or real tack drivers. It seems a bit surprising that the rear sight won't adjust
enough in windage.

Sounds like a keeper. Accy is the real measure, not appearance.

I didn't have a lot of time to play with the guns, but three different loads produced "patterns" from the 20yd line the wimmen shoot short pistols from.
The security six had them beat before I started cleaning it up.
Once they got discouraged I didn't feel it was worth spending more time on.

Yup. Discouraged is bad juju. Happy is good. Doesn't have to be logical.

I have a pair of Security Six's both 4 in, one SS and the other blue - they both shoot better than I can hold. Use the Lyman 357477 with 5.5 gr Unique in 38 cases - Don't shoot that load in a .38 though!

By the way - both are BiCentienal models - made in the 200th year of our Nations Liberty!

I have a 4" Stainless Security six that just plain wont group. Doesnt lead but wont shoot. Tried proven loads and boolits and still get patterns. It is going bye bye.
