I sold a Taurus 44 Special a few years back and regretted it ever since. My buddy said he would never sell it back to me, let alone sell it period. He finally relented and sold it back to me for what he paid me for it......Wait for it................................................ .....$175!! http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm243/Evansguns/104_2407.jpg

Nice!

Seen pictures but never saw one in a shop, same for the adjustable site version, no one seemed to stck them when they were being made.

Another on the long list of guns to buy should they become available!

Only saw another one of these one time. It was a 2 inch and it was HUGE! I paid $165 OTD and my buddy gave me $175 for this one. The 2 inch one was close to $300!!

I loaded up some 429-421K 250gr. SWCs for it over 13gr. 2400. This is the most accurate I have ever seen this gun shoot! My question....Is this too hot? It shot great, and the primers looked fine, recoil was stiff, but not uncontrollable.....So what do ya think?

I have a Taurus Model 441 in 44 Special, stainless. It is like yours only with adjustable sights. made in 1992, I'm the 4th owner that I know of and will be the last owner that I will know of. It is the single most accurate revolver I have ever owned outside my 3 Colt Officers Models, but it rivals them and is a big bore besides. Loves cast bullets, Lee 214 gr. SWC and Lyman 429360, and is not particular about power level. Fine, Fine revolvers, those Tauri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a 3 inch 441. It had .434 cylinder throats and shot great when I finally got a mold that would drop boolits large enough. Didn't care for the hugh rear sight they put on it. I bought it just before S&W started making the 696. Sold the Taurus to one of the members here and bought a 696 that I still have. The 696 has .429 throats and shoots even better.
If I could find a reasonably priced 3 inch Taurus with fixed sights I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Don't know why they dropped them. They're good guns.

I would love to have a 4" 696. I bet S&W could sell a butt load of them if they made them. I keep thinking about the Bisley 44 Special, but I really don't like shooting single actions as much as I like to look at them.

I cannot think of a better HD gun than that Taurus loaded with a quality HP round and a few speedloaders handily placed around the house.

It is not going to jam. It is easy to shoot. It has good accuracy and excellent ability to put a hurting on any BG in the house. That gun is certainly a keeper which I would train up my family members to use in case I was not around to help them.

It shot a nice fist sized group. Not exactly sure how far I was. I was shooting at my brother's property and the paper plate was tacked to a tree. I can tell you there was ZERO leading! This gun used to lead, but with this combo it does not. Some unburnt powder though.....Had a nice tight crimp, but still a little bit of unburnt powder. I can tell you that the SS front sight was playing tricks on my eyes. Need to blacken it and then we'll see how she does. Next up I am gonna load up 50 rounds and use the chronograph.....P.S. Will post a pic of the paper plate tonight....I do believe this would make a good woods walking load. Deer or hog would not stand a chance.

15.0 grains of 2400 behind Lyman #429421 or #429244 @ .431" gives 1100 FPS from my M-624 x 6.5". That is my top-end load in that revolver.

90% of its shooting uses 7.5 grains of Unique under #429421 (Skeeter's Load). More pleasant to fire, plenty of power (a bit better than the 41 Magnum lead bullet "police load"), and can be fired all day if you desire to. My view--the 44 Special at its best. My 6.5" barrel gives 925-950 FPS.

I used to hang on getting the next issue to read Skeeter. Didn't his son or wife put together a book with all his articles? It would be worthwhile to have and reread!!!!!

I don't know about a book, (they probably did though) but I have a special edition magazine published by Shooting Times that's nothing but Sketter stories from cover to cover. I miss Skeeter a lot.

I just got my 44 special ready for morning. It maybe just a Charter Arms but I like it a lot. After the mowing is done I plan on making some noise.

Two books both expensive, out of print and hard to find. The first one Good friends, Good guns, Good Whiskey is around some. I saw one without a dust jacket at a gun-show recently for $85, told him I had one in great shape with Jacket and he offered me $75 sight unseen. It's still downstairs in the bookshelf. The second Hipshots, Hoglegs and Jalapenos is rare and pricey. I would like to read it but know I would keep it if I ever bought a copy rather than read and resell.

I think his wife wrote a book "I remember Skeeter" but don't know if it was ever published or just advertised for advance sales.

It was published years ago and I have a copy. I think the first book was the best compilation of his work. Just my opinion.

Watch for it on the auction sites and you can find a copy once in a blue moon.

I didn't think much of the .44 Special until I got one. Pleasant to shoot. Accurate. Large pay load. Now I want another.
