38-55 RB problems

I am at 30 feet and shooting into a 22 cal steel trap (Otters)
84 grain .380 soft lead ball

Both loads are shooting less than 1-inch groups with open sights if I do my part
Both loads left a little (less than a dozen flakes) unburned powder in the bore

How my fps do you think will not harm the trap? ( I was thinking 800-900 Fps)

Not sure why I had the very low fps shots, all balls are crimp with Lee factory crimp die.
Not sure why there is unburned powder in bore.

1.7 grains of 700x real Quiet (My dogs dont mind it ,or the neighbors)

Good cat sneeze or gallery load?

448 fps
447
334
390
463

499fps
237 it was a flyer also 3 inches left
484
471
464

I then load 700x 2.1 grain (darn dogs hate it)

529 fps
551
566
483
554
538

Thanks for any help

Greetings
The first time you see a DENT in the trap is the indicator you have TOO MUCH... You could easily put a liner into your trap.
If you have real concerns make your own trap out of 3/8 with a wider mouth.
But consider that the trap was designed for a 40 grain boolit and you have doubled that.

Thanks your right

Some 22s are going as fast as 1260 fps

So you should be safe at 630 fps at least

I get lead coins out of the trap right now a little bigger than a nickel

I know steel bbs will dent the trap and they were only go 400 fps. (Dont ask) but he turned out ok

If you are crimping the ball at the mouth of the case, my guess would be that ignition of that small an amount of powder would be erratic at best.

Yes I am crimping the ball at the mouth of the case.

I expand the case with Lees universal case expanding die

I then set the ball with Lees universal case expanding die ( you must back it up)

Then I crimp, with a light crip, with LEE factory crip die

I tryed just seting the RB but the case shaved the sides of the ball
