I survied the first time of smelting wheel weights. After much reading here, I went ahead and gave it a try. The only problems I ran into was cleaning the dirt and junk completely out of the mix. The more I stirred the bottom the more junk came up. I also found out that once the lead is melted, it doesn't take much heat to maintain the temperature. I had all the safety gear and I can see how easy it would be to get burned if not careful. The lead does look real purdy when it is melted.

Smelted well north of 1000# this month. In the heat and humidity of the Southeast it can be a bit of sweat to get it done. I did my first ww lead this month, about 600#, and prefer to do the medical isotope lead, MUCH CLEANER.
