Hi all, I am in need of a loading for a 40 S&W using a 207 gr. TC lead boolit. I have most of the usual powders available, but no data on this boolit weight. I have been testing 175 gr. Lee TC boolits over both 6.7 grs. and 7.2 grs. of Blue Dot with some success. I have not been able to find data on a 207 gr. loading.

Anyone shoot something close to this boolit?

Get a copy of the annual 2010 Hodgdon "RELOADING", and they have info on the 200gr boolits.

A slight decrease in powder charge should give you what you need.

They do not list BlueDot, but do list 14 other powders for the 200gr wt.

I looked in my most recent Speer and Nosler books and no luck.

Good luck.

Keep em coming!

I'm curious in which firearm you will be using this ammo?

If you are using a S&W 610, seat them as long as the 10 mm and use similar data. If you are using these in a pistol and need to seat them to Standard OAL, Longshot might be a better choice. I have used the 200 gr Truncated cone Bear creeks which are usually about 3-5 gr heavy, and have also used the 193 gr jacketed bullets swaged up from 9mm brass. I can say that the very long heavy weights generally leave you very little in the way of powder capacity in the 40 S&W and you will likely (you probably know this) run into pressure problems. I'll see if I can find some data..

737--

Sorry to say, I have yet to try any 200 grain boolits in the 40 S&W. Having a 10mm in the safe, the 200 grain RCBS TC castings get used in that caliber.

Blue Dot powder with the Lee 175 TC is a winner in both the Glock 23 and the CZ-75B. Those are the other disincentives to boolit weight experimentation with the Forty Short & Weak--the 175-180 grain boolits shoot so well, and match closely to my authorized carry load for practice and training. I kinda regard the 180 grain-class boolits in the 40 S&W in the same light as 150-160 grainers for the 38/357 revolver--a natural affinity of sorts that performs very well.

Sargenv, it is a HK USP full size.

I went to the Hodgdon on line loading data and am going to try 4 grs. of HP38 for starters.

pay close attention to the recoil in an auto so you dont damage the slide with the heavy boolit. You will most likely get alot of unburned powder with BD

4.0grs W231 worked great with some 200gr moly-coated lead bullets that I was given. Very mild feel to the load, and shot with fantastic accuracy in my HK USP 40-- but almost everything feels mild and shoots great in my HK's.

I don't think the Hodgdon/Winchester reloading site has lead data for the 40SW (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and I'm not generally comfortable with subsituting jacketed recipes for cast lead recipes. Lyman has data for the 200gr lead with a start charge of 4.0grs W231, so the matchup is almost identical for start loads in this case, but the listed pressures and max charges are different. Be careful when transposing data. Good luck.
