A friend out west asked for some help in identifying this revolver. It's about 45 caliber.

You know, I was going to say it was a Starr, but, it looks more like either a Dutch or French gun. I know I've seen one before but I'll be dipped it I can remember exactly where

Whatever it is, it looks to be a cartridge conversion from blackpowder.

My friend says..

What do you think of that piece? It is strange that there is no identification on it. There are no indications of make, serial number.

It has been in our family ever since I can remember.

For some reason I want to say that it's a "Lematt" brand but I can't back that up. I didn't see it in an old Flayderman's.

Greetings, Slughammer,

Been looking for a Raphael for quite some time, to finish my collection. Will your friend consider selling it to me, and it would have a good home.

Go here: http://www.gunsamerica.com/search.cgi?uid=5403748124

the revolvers on the first page. View them, them decide what lineage it comes from. I'd say French.

I found one in my "Illustrated Book of Guns" or at least one that looks like it The book calls it a French Lagrese revolver. The one it the book could be a little older, it has a different triigger guard and an octagon barrel but the butt grip is identical. it is a 43 cal. or 10.9mm
Does it have any french writing on it like Lagrese Bte a Paris?

Looks French to me, definetely ugly enough.

the French govermint have a special ugly department, if you want to build a gun it has to pass the ugly tests so that everyone knows its French. My MAS is as ugly as sin, but I still love it. Mick.
