Just when you thought the Greenhorn was down and out.... I'm Baaack!!
Got everything setup up for boolits. and ran into a stump.

So... I have some hornady 44mag 240 grain JHP and want to put some Unique behind them for some carry round. But cant find the recipe for them anywhere.
so heres my specs.
XTP 240 .430 JHP
Unique powder
Wolf Primer
Remington Case

I just need the grain weight. And Updates on my buddies. How ya'll doin?
Doc says Im 100 percent. Besides the 10 pound snot wads that come out of my nose:) :holysheep

Glad your back amongst us. Now take care to NOT get flumuxed again. Doctors orders are mostly good things, even if they seem silly.:redneck:

Hey there Greenhorn44!! Not sure I want to know what was the problem you had, but welcome back.

From the Hornady manual on 44 Mag. loads.

Unique powder:

9.5 gr for 1100 fps range

10.7 gr MAX LOADING for 1200 fps range

Primer used was a Win. WLP standard primer

Pistol used in testing was a Ruger 7 1/2" Blackhawk

Glad you are stilling among the breathing! Robert

10 unique is a known good load in .44 mag and works well in essentially all of the
late 19th and all the 20th century .30 cal or so milsurp rounds with cast.

I've loaded lots of 240 gr condom style bullets using 10 gr of Unique. Worked well in my Dan Wesson and my S&W 629, but I only shoot cast boolits in my .44s now

10 grains of Unique has been my go to "plinkin" load for my S&W 29 for years.

With the 429421 sitting on top this load has just enough snap that the rookies think they can shoot a "magnum" all day!

Serioulsy Unique and WW296 are the only powders my 44 ever sees!

I will tell you that a loading of 6.5 gr of Unique under a 256 gr LFP cast boolit is way too much fun in a CA Bulldog .44 Spcl! It about tore offa my hand. Now I am loading 4.5 gr of Unique under that same slug and it gets the job done in a fine fashion.

However you were asking about a 240 gr in a 44 Mag? I had one of those Ruger Stainless RedHawk with the 7 1/2 bbl and it loved 9.5 gr of Unique under a 240 gr cast boolit. With 18 gr of 2400 it really would shake the world and was still accurate. Sadly that gun is gone but I do love that little Pug .44 Spcl.

Remember doctors don't make any money off of people that are not sick. They need to keep you coming back so they can make their boat payment.
