Contender in 41 mag with a 2x scope. A very good group on my part.

Here is a typical practice group.

Here's a pic of the loaded rounds.

I have the exact same pistol with a 2x Leupold scope on it. I shoot mostly 240 gn Keith and 255 gn WFN bullets out of it. I get the best accuracy from IMR 4227. I don't have my data in front of me, but as I recall the charge was 19.0 gns.

Greetings
When I was up this last time I had time for just a short few loadings of a 265 GCFN. I used 1680 in my Dan Wesson. I started at 17 grains and took it to 20 in one grain incriments.. As typical with the Dan the faster the boolit was pushed the better was the accuracy.
The Dan has a longer cylinder than the Rugers. I have numerous BLKHWKS and one Bisley.
That was the only powder I tried with that 265. I was doing my main loading with it in a 41 Supermag and just decided to give the 41 a go also. With the 41SM I got to 31.5 grains and the accuracy was getting near 1" at 25 yards.

I like the 41 maggie very much & I've taken quite a bit of game with it. Most animals have been taken with a 230 gr Keith slug but lately I've had good luck with a 250 WFN from LBT. I've used 2 loads in it, 17 grs of 2400 & 9.2 grs of Unique, this last load is running a little under 1100 fps & I put one through both front shoulders of a cow elk last fall, the distance was 74 yds & the bullet exited. Not sure why you would need more horsepower than that but some people like lots of velocity no matter what the target is. Usually the argument is, it shoots flatter, thats true it does. I use iron sights, I don't need to shoot much flatter, I want the accuracy.

Ahh, the .41 Mag, my favorite pistol cartridge. I learned how to handload with this cartridge on my uncles M57 8.375". Since then (84') I've had numberous N frames, (57, 58, 657), 14" TC Contender and a Marlin 1894S made in 87'. My usual bullet is however the 215 gr LSWC. This year I just got a Ranch Dog .411-255 WFN 6 cav mold :)but haven't used it yet do to my location. Looking forward to casting some boolits and giving them a workout. (another year away):(

I just chrono-ed some .41 loads in my 10" DW with a 280 gr LFNGC and between 18.0 and 18.5 of H-110 with various primers. Velocity ran from 1200 to 1300. Accuracy was all good with the best group being 1" on the money at 68 yds. That was 18.2/H-110 with WLP primers in WW cases, and I was using a 7x IER Burris scope.

Fourarmed, got to ask you i also shot the 300 grain lfn gc nei mold,my mold has 2 crimp rings,i loaded this bullet with 18.0 gains of 296 and did a heavy crimp on the lowest crimp ring. Using wlp primers,,this load showed alot of promise with good groups @25 yrds, however i had bullet creep using this load. Ive tried to correct the bullet creeping by doing a heavy crimp, and as of currant have yet to test it. I also loaded some with the same bullet, primer heavy crimp using using 296 powder at 17.7 grains this is my next load to try,and avoid the creeping. 17.4 grains will be my next load to try...if the creeping continues, ill have to retry with this bullet using the top crimp ring, and finding were the creeping stops.

You might want to check the diameter of your expander ball, it might be a little large.

I second that suggestion, find a way to just flare the case mouth with out the expander ball, the extra grip will do the trick of the crimp.

With my dies, I have not had creep problems with my LBT 280 LFNGC or the purchased NEI 265 (nominal - actually closer to 275). I have loaded them to the point of stiff extraction. This is a Dan Wesson, however, so stiff extraction is not necessarily a sign of excess pressure.
