I've got a 6 cav Ranch Dog 30-165-RF coming in the mail soon from his latest group buy. I traded for a couple hundred of these bullets for some load work up in a friend's .30-30 and just finished loading them. As I was working with them, I realized they might just be the ticket for hunting deer with my .30-06 - that wide meplat would at least give me a little more confidence than my RCBS 30-150-SP on hunting big game with cast boolits. I realize these are designed specifically for Marlin 336 .30-30, but has anyone crossed them over to the .30-06? Mine is a M70 Classic FWT SS/wood that slugs out at .310". Thanks for the help!

PS - Anyone interested in an RCBS-150-SP mold?

I tried the 165 gr. RF mold ( NOE ) in my 308 Win. , normally extremely accurate with cast bullets. It was a " No - Go ", I know that particular bullet has shot very well in 30 - 30 rifles. Many people rave about it. However , for me it didn't work out.
I think it has something to do with the contour and size of the nose on that bullet ? ?
I could not recommend a better bullet for white tails than this one :

I'll give this one a run through my M70 Classic FWT, it shoots the RCBS 30-150-SP quite well. Does the 311284 expand on whitetails or does it pencil right through them?
Depends on what it hits, more likely than not, it will go on through and if there is a deer behind the 1st one you've shot, probably completely through the 2nd one also.
I've thought about HP'ing my 311284.

I got the RD mold today, looks great, but we're in the middle of packing for a move in the near future, so my casting and loading days are severely limited. I'll do some testing with it hopefully later this summer or fall.
