9mm mold

I have a lyman 358477 for my 38spl. What is your guys thoughts on using that for a 9mm? I did a test case and it looks like the boolit sits real deep in the case. Im afraid of too much pressure. I did try it in my Sig P6 and it seems to chamber just fine. What do you guys think?

I shoot this in my 38 Super (I know it isn't a 9x19 :-)). It's an RCBS 38-162 SWC-GC. I don't recall now without looking at my data what the weight was. If you can find data for a 148gr cast load, and can identify the slug, then using the OAL of the round you should then be able to figure the available case volumn. You'd then apply that to what you're wanting to do. Also have to keep in mind probable case, primer, and powder lot differences for your start loads if there's not an exact match for that boolit.

Think you'll have to reduce powder charges to compensate for less case volume.

Never have been able to figure out the need for 150 grain boolits in the 9mm but to each his own.

You'll find heavy boolit 9mm load info in the Lee second edition manual although most of it is the Vitavouri powders.

Curious as to what you mean by chambered?? Dropping a dummy round in a hole in the barrel is not the same as getting a SWC to feed from the mag each and every time.

If your looking for something with a little less point on it than the usual RNL I would suggest the lee 125 rf instead. Good weight to get some decent velocity with better than average energy transfer.

The Lee 125 rf at 1200 is way better that the Lyman 150 at 850. won't even discuss issue with trying to sight in a gun set up for 115 RN ammo with slow 150's reloads and a "rainbow" trajectory.

I have 150 grain already, so i figure might as well use it. Im out of a job, so i shouldnt really be spending money on a hobby. And i loaded the dummy rounds in the mag, and cycled the slide.

Economics can be the deciding factor in many things!

If it cycles and you can find a good powder charge than set up and run a few. I saw 147 grain loads listed in The Lee manual using Bullseye blue dot and green dot to name a few.

A little reaserch should locate a couple other manuals with 150 grain load data in them.

Should work ok if you find the right overall length - and if they cycled by hand your probably there or very nearly - powder wise 3.6 N320 with my 358311 158 grn RN gives about 900 fps and cycles most 9x19 guns ok.
