Went to get some shoes and saw a Mosin 91/30 1938 Ishi. that had the cleanest stock I have ever seen on one of those rifles. Was tempted but had some home repair bills that have to come first. O well isn't like I need the darn thing. They were $99 and the M44 they had was $129.

I am not a fan of the M44 though my pair shoot J-words OK ........ have not tried boolits yet.
I do however really like the 91/30's and my one M38 thus far!

Freightman,
I have both, in military mode ans sporter.
I like the 91/30 either way as it just seems to shoot well
The 44 is another story.
They are made to be shot with the bayonet extended and will shoot about 6 inches high if it is taken off.
Don't ask why as I do not know.
They are made to shoot an inch of man and do it well.
I hope to be able to do some tests for accuracy on one of my 91.30's this summer.
I have both counter bored and non counter bored and it doesn't seem to make a difference so that part is your own personal preference.
For an old beat up battle rifle they are pretty darn good and if I had the space would buy several more.
Be prepared for a lot of bore cleaning as they haven't been cleaned in 50 years.
Hope you get a good one

get 'em while you can, the C&R holders will grab these pretty fast.
