I have seen some very nice shiny boolits on this site and am wondering how they become soooo purtty. My boolits are more of a bull color, I am running pure WW's should I be adding tin? If so what is a good cheap source?

The Shiny Boolits are a product of casting at a constant lower temperature, and possibly using Tin for fillout. Since my casting doesn't have as much temperature control, I'm too cheap for the technology, I still get frosted, dull boolits. I'll let someone who does, explain the specifics.

A little tin makes em a lot purdier. You don't need more than about 2% to be plenty.
Also , they won't get the ugly moldy look after awhile.

I perfer the light frosting look, means good fill out.

I agree, my frosted boolits always look alot better for fill out than the shiney ones.

I strive for a dull frosty look but not a rough frosty look if you can understand what I am talking about. A mould that is nearing too hot will fill out well and leave a boolit that is not mirror shiney but has a little frosty look but still smooth. The rough frosty indicates a mould that is overheated IMHO. It is hard to keep it at a perfect temp. but that is just one of the challenges of casting.

I don't think most of the shiny boolits are WW alloy, but something like #2 alloy, which is easier to get shiny boolits with IMHO, or as stated, tin added. It's hard to get good fill out with straight WW without getting them hot enough to frost in most cases. It is just cosmetic, though.

Get a rag and after loading wipe them down good. Often they polish nicely.
Lower temps than I like give that shine as well as your molds finish....Buck

My boolits are dull too wiersy.
I dont cast for look, just consistency.

I found that cheap source of tin is from old pewter wares from garage sales/ sumday markets.
I usually look for cracked pieces or dented stuff.

Well I guess I must be doing OK then as I am getting good fill out and the smooth even light frost. The first few throws are always shinier until the mold get up to temp. When they start to get the to hot frosted look I change molds for a while and comeback later.
