Was in a sporting good store this morning and they just happened to have a Lee single cavity mold in the boolit I want to cast. I couldn't wait to get them home, cleaned up and ready to cast my first boolits. Much to my disappointment upon inspection under the magnifying glass I see this mold is damaged. There is a pretty good mar across at least 8 vent grooves on one side and there in an absence of vent grooves on at least 3/4 of the the other side. Being a newbie at this I'm assuming that this might be detrimental to casting a good boolit. I'll take them back next week when I get to town. I'll just have to wait for my Lyman mold to get here next week.

If the vent grooves can be opened up with a scribe and if the dent didn't raise metal that prevents the mould from closing it should be ok, assuming the dent doesn't intrude into the cavities. The missing grooves can be scratched in. But you paid for a new mould and this is not up to par. Just depends on how much you want the mould.

Yeah, the question is what do the castings look like?
