Spent the better part of the last two years with this project in the back of my head. Had some sucess with a home made die a while back and now I have had a bit of luck again.

I'm able to turn out some very good looking .458 200-500 grain bullets now with jackets from 40 S&W and 45 ACP brass. Of course I don't have a 458 caliber gun but a friend has a 45-70 in lever action we will be trying these out in soon.

I'll get some pics soon but what I have is a 300 grain HP made from the 40 S&W brass and a 425 SP made from the 45 ACP brass.

Hope to have some range reports and more pics soon.

Next will be a .416 die that will not take me near as long as the .457-.458 die did.

Good shooting

Nice boolits!
How did you get the rim sized down on the .45acp? I wouldnt mind adding that 300 to my set up.

I was looking at the .45acp case thinking it would be a canadate for a one step .475/480Ruger cal boolit. I bet it would be a slam dunk.

I've got a Siamese Mauser in 45-70 if you want to test them at 2000+ fps. I want to vaporize a rabbit or two. /;>)

I have a .460 Weatherby Magnum if you want to test the 300 gr. at 3,000 fps and the 500gr at 2,600+ fps.

That 300 gr. is perfect for my .458 SOCOM.

As you can see in the pic below:

.460 Weatherby loaded with a Lee 500 gr. RNLGC 20 grs. of Unique makes it shoot like a 45-70

Old Ideal 390gr GC .458" mould and it loaded in the .458 SOCOM

Lee 500 gr. RNLGC mould and loaded

Sierra 300 JHP and loaded round

Hornady 500 gr. JSP and loaded round

.460 Weatherby loaded with the 500 gr. JSP

For those that don't know the .458 SOCOM is made to shoot in an AR 15 and turns it into a autoloading sledgehammer.

I have been following the .458" swaging project from the begining just for these two cartridges.

Very interesting cartridges there. I'll have some more details about these bullets soon. Just gave a few hundred to a freind of mine to try out in his 45-70.

Really was a fairly easy bullet to make from either case. Did take a bit of pressure to expand the 40 S&W in the core seating step. The big 425 grain from the 45 ACP was possibly even a little easier. I just droped in a core then the core seat die seated and reduced to .455 in one step. Then just form the point and good to go!

If I get realy good and I am able to repeat these results with future dies I may just offer a couple die sets for sale as I have had a few interested allready. We will have to see as it is quite a bit of teadious work to get it just right and not go over on size. Still I'm very pleased with the results.

I'll see what I can come up with for some possible future test bullets for you guys. Still a little backed up on die orders but I am catching up so when I get some spare time I'll put a few together and we shall see.

As I have several 45 cal rifles, I would also be interested in a set of dies to make various bullets in different weights for the 458/459 dia......................Thanks
