I have a 140 grain Lee SWC mold. My Lyman manual has no listings for 140 Grainers. It goes from 120 to 150 nothing in between. My Charter Bulldog liked 2400 with a 124 grain bullet, and I was wanting to give it a go with the SWC.

What does your manuals have listed for the starting and max load with 2400.

Or if you have a really good preforming load for a 140 grain SWC that uses Red Dot, Unique, Bulleseye, or 700x I would like to hear it.

they dont show one for the 140 grain bullet. I wanted to know ehere the cieling was so I didnt get through it on accident. I plan on loading 5 rounds of each powder charge in 1/10th grain increments from low to high and shoot them tomorrow to determine the best charge.

I use 7.0 grains of W-231/HP-38 the Lee 140 SWC # 90318 cast bullet..using a S & W 27 & a Ruger SS Blackhawk. MV is @ 1,225 FPS...very accurate load. 7.5 grains of Unque will give duplicate the W-231/HP-38 load. I use the former to save powder & because it meters more accurately.

hmm, I ususally load to the next heavier bullet listed.

If you use a lighter bullet than what is listed you won't exceed maximum pressure. IMO it's safer that way.

sorry I'm no help on the 357 mag. i'd use about 3.5gr of ww 231 with a 148gr HBWC in a 38 special.

Speer #13 lists 13.1-15.1gr/2400 under a jacketed 140gr. The Lee 140gr has more bearing surface, so decreases case capacity, so using 158gr data is probably more applicable. 13.8-14.8gr/2400 according to the same Speer #13. Those loads will make stout recoil in a lightweight revolver, so I would be inclined to back off to about 11gr/2400 and work up.

Thank you sir thats the info I was looking for. I cleaned sized and primed the brass last night. Now I can dump in some powder charges. Gonna have to wait on the rain to quit to try them out.
