I recently purchased a used Lyman 2 cavity 45 acp mold. I have a set of Lyman handles that came with a 2 cavity Lyman ideal mold that I bought used (which works perfectly).

The two cavity 45 acp mold closes fine, until you mount them on the handles and there is a gap at one end.

Are the Lyman ideal handles different than the newer ones?

I have four or five sets of Lyman handles supposedly for the large or double cavity molds. They are all different, in that the handles are at a closer or farther apart when a mold is installed. Some molds work with all of them, some handles work with all molds; but not all.

I think it is a matter of tolerance stacking as to what fits what.

Thanks for the advice. I also just learned that the Lee 6 cavity handles might work - trying that next.

The Lee 6-cav handles tend to have a bit of a sloppy fit on 2-cav Lyman blocks, but I've never seen them not fit or not work.

jason,
I use Lee handles on some of my lyman molds. Sometimes you have to grind or file a little on the ends of the handles to get the holes lined up or to get the mold halves to close completely. At $12.00 a set for Lee handles, I can do a little fitting.jmsj

I use my RCBS handles from 2 cavity molds for my Lyman 2 cav molds...work great.

Tried the Lee 6 cavity handles and it appears I am in business. Thanks for all the replies.
