Well, I am a little slower than most, but traded for a real nice Mosin-Nagant rifle. It is a 1932 Tula Arsenal with the hex receiver. has been arsenal refinished and all numbers match. The bore looks very strong but dirty. I will have to clean and decopper it before I know for sure what I have.

I have a set of dies and a number of fat 30 molds, one of which should work just fine. What can I expect as normal for this rifle.

I usually get 2-3", ten shot groups at 50 yards with open sights and blind eyes. My go to boolit though is your 311407MOD sized to .314...Ray

Probably a lot larger bore than you would expect!

Congrats, I too just traded for a 33 Hex Tula and am waiting the opportunity to get to the range to test it out.

I get clay target sized groups at 125 yds , 4-4.5" with iron sights
But my nephew can keep the same loads right around 2"-2.5" groups, 14 year old eyes

I have a Carbine that I replaced the rear sight with a scope mount and added a Scout scope

I have not had a chance to do a lot of testing
But in my limmited testing
I got several 1.5" - 1.75" 5 shot groups at 125 yds

Now I have to take the time to see if those were a fluke or what I should expect

And as someone already stated
Probably a lot larger bore than you would expect!

I will agree 100%

is it a carbine or a rifle (91/30, 91, 28, 39)?
the long bbls with a long sight radius shoot well.
me thinks a big fat heavy at 1600-1700 fps should do in the 2-3" range at 100.

maybe less with a scope or young eyes...

It is a 91/30 rifle.

I've got the bug for one. Most all I've seen local have counter bores, should I stay away from them?? Anyone have any luck ordering from J & G Sales?? Hate to buy sight unseen but the price is right.

I have a C&R license and buy from J&G Sales a lot.
If you ask for (and pay for) the hand select you will not be disapointed.
I have several 91/30's that are counter bored and they shoot as good as the ones that are not counter bored.
I originally bought the counter bored ones to make sporters out of but changed my mind and left them the way they were.
I do not think you will be disappointed with J&G and no I do not own stock in the outfit but wish I did.

The Mosin Nagant Rifle is designed for minute of Man accuracy.Your results will vary.If you spend the time playing with different loads and bullet types you can find the sweet load. All of them vary on what that load is.Classic Arms has some nice EX Dragoons. They are from the 20's and are very nice.Give them a look.Mike

I shot my Rooski this morning with some S&B factory ammo. No problem rolling a bowling pin at 75 yards off hand. I brought it back to the shop and cleaned the barrel with Ed's Red and found a nice shiney strong bore. Looks like I got lucky. I bought this rifle from my local dealer who bought it for himself. So, I got the chance to give it a good once over before I made an offer. I had to pay more than what I could get one straight from the importer, but I got to examine this one hands on before I bought.

Tomorrow I will start with some Sweets and see what we have.

Now if I can just find that pesky front guard screw... I know it is here somewhere.
