Would it be OK to use 30:1 for 45LC 800 to 900 FPS?
I'm using a 454190 mould

A true and honest 30-1 is around a 9BHN which is plenty good for shooting almost all lead 45 Colt loads. I use the same mix with a tad of tin for fill out and it does fine. Read the sticky section and all the articles written by Glenn Fryexll in the front of this forum. Later David

If you add a "tad of tin for fill out", then what is the "1" part of your "30:1"???

I agree, itsn't that what 30-1, 25-1, 20-1, etc means? At 900fps, you can shoot pure lead sized correctly, good lube, w/ little leading. My cast LHP are 25-1 & do well to 1200fps.

OK pards, I have been casting for about a few years, since 1971 and I know what 30 to 1 means. What I was saying is that in some of my 45 Colt molds that I had made by Hoch seem to like a little extra. That is all I was saying . Did not realize that I should dot the i on a simple question. Thought if the member had a problem with fill out that he might remember to add a touch. Daddyfixit please remember from now on that if you post on this forum about your lead alloy to report it as it is. If you started with 30 lbs of lead and you added 1.8 pounds of tin then you will be corrected as to it's real content as it is no longer 30 to 1 even if it works.
