Last night, I avoided buying stuff while too tired to think straight. But then went and did it before being fully awake this morning.

I have been looking for a mould for my 38S&W, knew that Ideal 360 series moulds were the correct diameter.

Where can i find a list of ideal moulds, with style and weight and such "interesting, possibly useful" information? Hopefully online, as I have to watch the money.

oh, what I bought was an Ideal 360-271-S It was not terribly expensive as such go, so I really doubt I paid too much, and could probably recoup most if I have to sell it off.'

The 358271 is a short nosed SWC with a wide base band and two lube grooves separated
by a very narrow middle band.

.............Who made your 38 S&W? Have you checked the chamber mouths and slugged the barrel? DO a search for 38 S&W and you'll come up with a plethora of reading, as there are several nuts around here severly afflicted with 38 S&W-itis :-).

I have 3 myself!

Oeldewolf,

The mold reference pages at castpics have most of Lyman's molds covered.

It's a 150 gr. Swc. It stands a good chance of casting on the fat side, which is beneficial to many .38 S&W's. The throats on all of mine are in the .362" range.

I have the same mould design with the "S" logo. That allegedly either indicated either "Special" (maybe oversize) or "Small". The more common indicator for undersized moulds is "U" according to the collectors. My copy drops about .361 and I really need .362+. Yours may do better.

Thank you. Looks like I have at least a chance of having bought what I want. Have to get it here, and see what exactly it casts at.

Buckshot, it is an S&W Doubleaction Topbreak in 38 S&W. The serial number leads me to think it was made around 1884. Somebody tried to give it a hair trigger, which can be corrected easily enough. I have not bothered yet, as I could not get hold of a suitable mould.

Looks as if I will need to turn up the heat on the burner with that project sitting on it. :D
