I did some machining work for an friend of a friend and am recieving aSchmidt-Rubin 1911 or 1896/11 rifle sporterized and chambered for 30-30. The rifle resides 100 miles away but I was visiting for the weekend and got to try it. sweet little rifle , seems pretty accurate with factory fodder , I am not very knowlegable about Schmidt-Rubin rifles any info would be appreciated , does anyone know about these conversions , who did them , any problems to watch for, ect. other than a southpaw trying to run a straightpull bolt:lol: , this is looking like a great little rifle. 30-30 is supposed to be a dream with cast , I think this is going to be fun:cool:

Kind of a shame to rechambe a S-R. The original cartridge is pretty much equivalent to the
.308 Win, so the .30-30 isn't going to strain it any.

If the conversion was well done, you should have an accurate rifle since the originals are
very accurate guns.

Conversions like that used to be somewhat common back in the 50's from the looks of the adds in old Rifleman mags. I've seen a few in 308 too on the K-31. If it's done well it should be a joy.

I saw one that had been converted to 30-30 once, but didn’t get a chance to shoot it. I have shot two that were converted to .308, and am currently using one of them as a cast boolit gun. It shoots cast boolits as accurately as any gun I own.

All of the .30-30 conversions I've seen were done on 1889 rifles, not 96/11's or later.

I've seen some .308 Winchester conversions on 96/11's and 1911's but they are pretty rare on K31's.

The reason I suspect that the .30-30 conversion is not a 96/11 or later is that the reason that the 1889's were converted to .30-30 is because they were not strong enough for the higher pressure cartridges. Before being revised in 1911, the 7.5 Swiss ammo was of lower pressure specs.

that makes sense, it seemed fine with factory fodder , the brass looked good , no sign of problems , headspace ect, when I get the rifle in my grubby paws I will figure it out

It should be a nice cast boolit gun, just what you need with a goofy looking motorbike is a goofy looking rifle! Lol! I have a 31, they are sweet looking rifles, even if a bit goofy looking.

LOL yup they make a good combo , I may have to put the Shmidt in the sidecar and take it for a ride, just to get it comfy with russian iron. That way if it it ends up between the Mosin and the Siminov in the gun cabinet it won't be offended

I have many Milsurps or at least my wife thinks so.I have a K 31 but it is 7.5 Swiss ammo.
My K 31 & my M39 Finn are my two favorites.

I've never seen one in .30-30 but my wife'scousin has one .308. Somebody sported the stock . Actually did a good job with it. It still has the original sights and the barrel has n't been cut or anything. He said it shot really good.

If you decide you would like to sell that .30-30 Schmidt-Rubin you have a buyer right here. I have been looking for one for awhile now!
