Has anyone used the rcbs168 with reddot, unique, bullseye in the 7-08? I kinda feel in the dark with this round, can't find info on it.

The powders you list are a tad on the fast side for me.
A lot will depend on your rifle and it's throating, and how much of the RCBS's nose is bore riding.
Play with sizing, my V-700 likes bullets sized .2865 .287
I'm getting about 2 MOA out to 200 meters with the Saeco 070 [140 gn] and 2.5 MOA with the Saeco 073 [160 gn] over 16.0 2400

I use Red Dot in my 7x57 for plinking loads. I started at 8 1/2gn and went to 11 1/2, with 10 giving the best accuracy but 11 1/2 giving suficient accuracy at 1500fps, but with enough "feel" to make steel plate 60yd plinking fun and getting ovber 600 shots from a lb of powder was - is not bad either. Lyman mould 287641 160gn. For hunting loads I use 39gn H4350 for 2415fps and neither load needs a wad.

Hi necshot,

While I have not shot the RCBS 168gr in 7-08, back in the 80's I used to shoot in IHMSA and used a Rem. XP-100 that was rechambered for 7-08. I shot both my own swaged bullets and also 168gr Sierra match. I tried a number of different powders at the time but ended up using Hodgdon H4985. Worked great for me but I didn't have a crono to tell me what it was doing. At loads below 35gr it caused dirty necks and shoulders while 35 and more gave me clean brass.

I want to get this boolit around 18-1900 fps. I tried 10 gr unique and did not like the results. I want to try duplicate the harris load for his 30-30. This is for hunting only.

Unique would be the best of the powders you mentioned, but is on the fast side for the velocities you are seeking. You probably can go up to 15 grains of Unique, or a bit more safely, but velocities will still be a bit under what you are seeking. Better would be something like Aliant 2400, or IMR 4227 for modest charge weights, good velocity, and medium pressures.

I have a 7mm-09 Sako Mannlicher Carbine. We use to have Dan from Mountain Molds on our forum and he came up with a contest called the 200,000 rpm contest. I won't get into the contest, but at that time I only had one rifle with a fast enough twist to try that and that's the Sako. I only had one 7mm bullet mold then too, the Lyman 150 grain Loverin. I didn't like it because it loaded too deep in the case with the short throat on the 7mm-08, but I could get decent 1/2 groups out of it, but not at HV. So I got a Lee 135 grain 7mm mould and eventually got it up to the needed rpm velocity of around 2630-or 40 and could shoot 3/4 inch groups with, but not consistently to win the contest. I was using just about full cases of 4350. So that Lee bullet does shoot and so does the Lyman, but the Lyman is better suited, at least from my rifle, to around 18-1900 fps but is very accurate.

Hi wayne,

I just bought myself a Tikka T3 7mm08 with the hope of finding a good load for the RCBS 145 or the new 7mm from Noe.
Did you try the 145gr at all in the 700? Peter.

Wiljens cast bullet reference has three 2,000 fps loads for the 145gr RCBS. IMR 4895 28gr, H380 30gr and WW760 30.5 grains. Free download at link below.

Hello.
I shoot 7-08 for some years now in a SAKO 75 VLS. The gun shoots both condom (long distances) and cast boolits. it is topped with a BURRIS XTR 3-12. I have tried the LYMAN silhouette 162grs, LYMAN loverin 150grs, LEE 130grs, RCBS 168grs and LEE SOUP CAN 135grs, all with VECTAN ou Vihtavuori powders. The Loverin design cast too small and gives bad accuracy... I keep it for paper patching (when I'll have the time to give a try). All the other molds, except the silhouette and the soup can didn't gave good accuracy (they were NOT bore riders)... I had good luck with the LYMAN silhouette but accuracy was not repeatable [smilie=b:. I must precise that this mould isn't a real bore rider too. The best one for me is the LEE soupcan (6 cavities). It is a real bore rider and gives a solid 1,5 MOA on 10 shots with BAC lube and diameter of .285. Powder charge is 15.5grs of Vihtavuori N110 (same as your 2400) and a CCI 200 primer. I shoot it from 100 to 200 meters and the point of aim at 100 is the same zero scope that my SIERRA 168grs load at 200 meters. I actually wait my NOE 7mm bore rider hunter mold to give it a try (I bought this one for my Smith & Wesson 1500 7x64 hunting rifle).
Hope this helps.

I concur with Reddot, unique and bullseye being to fast for 18 ~1900fps. I don't but wish I did have the RCBS 185gr. I do have the RCBS sil 145gr. You have to go to a slower powder H4895 or IMR 4895. I use 24gr of H4895 with the 145gr @ 1770fps.I have shot a 100kg pig @ 150meters with this load. Through the front shoulder and out the other side.
GabbyM is on the money with 28grs of IMR4865 @2000fps.

I could use some myself. If you've got a lot of it, send me a PM with what brand and your price per 100.
