I have the RCBS 2 Die Set for the 35 Whelen and would like to know if the RCBS Case Lube would work well inside the case neck of the case when sizing the 30-06 brass into the 35 Whelen as I would like to prevent case splits as much as possible and maybe enable my brass to last longer? And if so what would be the best way to clean the RCBS Case lube from inside the case before loading?

Thank You for any info. :)

The expander balls that have a gradual taper on them from 30 cal. up to 35 cal. works best for opening up .30 cal. necks to .35 cal. You'll get fewer neck splits when opening up to 35 Whelen when using a tapered neck expander ball.

As to clean necks, I'd use some Lacquer thinner and dip a Q -tip into the Lacquer thinner, make a few turns with the Q-tip inside the neck and you're done. The Lacquer thinner will evaporate very quickly.

I lube it really well, then size, then just toss the brass in the tumbler to clean.

What kind of brass are you sizing?

270 works well if you have any of that you want to use for 35 whelen.

I have a few hundred Remington and Winchester 30-06 Brass

I only have about 20 pieces of .270 brass thus far but that is for the .270 lol.

I take mine to 338 first, then to 35. Nothing special, I use RCBS lube and then tumble.

I use the Redding dies to go from 30-06 to 35 Whelen. They have a tapered expander plug that is well suited for this task. I don't know how well the RCBS expander will work for this. I have been told that 270 Win cases are better candidates for 35 Whelen conversions, as the OAL is slightly longer, which makes up for what length is lost in neck expansion.

I have done it like Blammer. My RCBS sizing die has a tapered expander that should work for anything from a .270 on up.

I also use Redding 35W dies, but go 8MM or 338 first.

I use RCBS dies and go in one step .308-.358. I lubed with a white powder made by Winchester and dipped the neck in then tapped it clean. I bought some 35 W. stufff from an older shooter and have not needed to re-form in some years. I agree 270 cases are a better bet.

Use a nylon brush thats about 30 cal. Brush the inside of the necks with the brush having some lube on it. The brushing will remove the carbon/fouling and spread the resizing lube on the inside of the neck. If your really worried about getting the lube off I'd give the batch a solvent wash (outside), drain and let dry.

I regularly use the nylon brush/lube on most of my cases since they windup going through a ultrasonic cleaner.

I use 270s because when sized they are a bit longer than 06s. They are all a little short. In my mind trimming after reforming is important to remove any micro cracks started by the neck stretching.
Just useing RCBS case lube with a RCBS 35 whelen die about 2 in 50 once fired 270 cases split during the resizing.

Ok another wild question lol. Can you neck size only with the standard set of dies or do you need a special die for this?

you can do a neck sizing of sorts - you just run the case in part of the normal length so only the neck goes in say 1/2 to 3/4 of the way instead of down to the shoulder. That way you don't touch the shoulder setback

Oh and I like Imperial sizing wax

I use crisco for lube and believe me I have done around 1000 30-06 case to 35 and not one lost
try it and you will be surprise
I use crisco for all my case lubing
you need very little on the case
used a Q tips to apply inside the neck
one thing I notice it never make a dent in the case even if you put to much
