I have a 30 calibre project ongoing at the moment, and I get to choose my throat diameter. As I see it at the moment, we can go:

.3085": advantages -- should shoot very well with J-words. Disadvantages -- would have to size .308" which would not give a lot of meat for swaging down into the bore, which could potentially give problems?

.3090": appears to be the worst compromise, since I would probably also still have to size .308" to ensure reliable functioning.

.3095": would enable me to size .309", but might start to reduce the accuracy of J-words

even bigger: probably going to get neck diameter problems with a tight chamber.

Thoughts?

I use a .3095 throater with a 1.5 deg taper on my commercial 30 cals. You wont looase much accuracy with J bullts as the 155 Sierra Palma has shot 10 a tad bit under 3/4" at 100 for my in my 30 BR throated as above. The 30 BR reamer my smith uses hasa .330 dia neck. When he builds 308's he used a .260 Rem reamer with a .30 piot then runs a 30-40 Krag remer to cut the neck, its end up witht a tighter neck, but no so smalll you need to trim necks.
